How to tell if it is a real 1967 SS

I was wondering how I find out if this car I am looking to buy is a real SS. Any help or input would be great! Thanks guys

Bottom line on this is, there is no way of telling, everything can be faked.
What you should be looking at is the sellers provenance. In other words does he have original documentation proving this is a real original SS.

P.S. Even the documentation can be faked. Several people were scammed at a resent Barret/Jackson aution. But at least with the correct car and the documentation you have a chance.

You can sometimes find options that are only on the SS and check to see if they are there. If they look original that a big plus.

Which options were ONLY available on the SS? I think possibly the hide away headlights?

same for 67' but you could get a RS/SS and have hideaways on an SS

mine is a SS clone, all the badgeing....everything eles is aftermarket.....

i would actually be a little upset if mine was a real SS due to the fact the only thing still from 1967 is the subframes and body (most of the body)

there are tricks. Ask the guys at Camaros.net.....they know their shyt when it comes to 1st gen

if i remember right there is the vin the door jam and the tag in the engine bay that should say if it's an SS. Think it should be rivited on or possibly two tack welds. Easy to fake though....

look for ther build sheet under the rear seat. sometime I get lucky and its still there.

RS = hideaway lights ... my car is number 60k from Van Nuys ... its like they are brothers ;) ---

1 = Chevrolet

While most SS-350s should have a 4P code as well, as an early build car it is still possible that it did not get the 4P code. (Assuming it is a 350, does it have the original block? If so, what's the engine code?)

2M is definitely a Powerglide. Its far too early to be a TH400 any way.

Thats funny, a friend of mine has a couple of 67's with a TH-400

Did you read this from the site you posted

And it should have the 4P code if it was built in Nov. and had a 350

For the 2M code it says (LOS - TH400 it is thought), and Z - TH400 3-speed Automatic (NOR only it is thought).

The TH-400 was a late model year addition. The car in question is a November (1966) built car. I also have a November (1966) Van Nuys built Camaro, it is also a 2M code, and it also has a powerglide. Furthermore TH-400 was only available with a 396 in 1967. This car is definitely not a 396.

FWIW, the site you posted is less than accurate on a lot of things. http://www.camaros.org is the most accurate source for first gens Camaros out there.
