GTOJack 12-26-2007, 04:25 PM If the dual bubble roof of the concept makes it to the production car, will it even be possible to install an aftermarket power sunroof? I think the roof needs to be pretty flat for a sunroof. Any aftermarket sunroof installers reading this?
Sholt_c33 12-27-2007, 10:14 AM I can remember someone on here posting that their company got the contract for a sunroof for the 5th gen...anyone else remember seeing that?
Edit: found it...

JasonD 12-27-2007, 10:59 AM I think that was the supplier for a factory sunroof glass, not an aftermarket one.
GTOJack 12-27-2007, 01:35 PM I didnt see that thread. It looks like the production car will get a flat roof and a sunroof will be available from the factory.
Emher 12-27-2007, 05:59 PM I hope not. The reverse mohawk is one of the best exterior design keys.
JasonD 12-27-2007, 08:52 PM There is always the possibility of two roofs, one for a sunroof (no channel) and one for no sunroof (with channel).
Let me put it another way...
In the crappy leaked cell phone pic...there is a channel. And I am pretty confident that a sunroof will be offered.
EllwynX 12-29-2007, 12:10 AM I don't see why everyone is so sure you can't have the 'reverse mohawk' AND the sunroof. I'm sure they can mold something to work just fine.
Besides that 'mohawk' isn't THAT deep. The outter part of the sunroof (the non glass part) could just be molded to mimic the lines.
Use a little imagination...
GTOJack 12-29-2007, 08:00 AM A power sunroof has to be flat to slide back on the track when it is open, unless it slides back on top of the roof and is visable when open. I just dont see GM spending the money for 2 different shaped roofs, depending on the sunroof option or not.

The glass has to be flat to slide back, yes. But the 'housing/molding' doesn't have to be. So long as it can slide straight back, the housing can be molded in any way.
fbod4evr 01-01-2008, 03:38 PM I'd like a sunroof .
BigDarknFast 01-05-2008, 08:04 PM The production car pic released by GM clearly shows a sunroof...

My Red 93Z-28 01-06-2008, 03:05 PM Hopefully that is just an option and the reverse mohawk roof is still available. I have no desire for a sunroof, but I can see where it could be an additional selling point...especially in the V6 cars. Women typically like sunroofs.
Good Ph.D 01-06-2008, 07:14 PM I don't see why the glass can't conform to the shape of the roof if it's going to recess into the same shaped roof.

I bet its a cost thing, but thats got to be the only reason. it would be fairly simple to mold the glass for that contour.
Rampant 01-06-2008, 10:07 PM I wouldn't mind if CDC did a glassback for the Camaro......
Lt1 and Ls1 01-06-2008, 10:50 PM Eh I have never like t-tops, sunroofs ect. I really like the concept roof. That was definately a plus. Anymore disappointments? :(
Good Ph.D 01-07-2008, 02:33 AM I will all but gaurantee you that a sunroof will not be standard.
Lt1 and Ls1 01-07-2008, 07:44 AM I hope it wont because that would DEFINATELY stop me from buying one! Even though I dont like some things on it, I have been loyal to the camaro and will be purchasing one. I can get over most of the things I "dont" like on it!
Fenster 01-08-2008, 05:48 PM Due to costs it will not be a standard piece of the vehicle. My bet is that you will see the sunroof as a stand alone option on the vehicle for all grades/models. I for one do not want a sunroof on my Camaro when i get it!
99SilverSS 01-09-2008, 01:55 AM Well so far we have seen several spy pics of the Camaro and only one, the recent Ed Pepper released uncamo'd white car had what seemed to be a sunroof and a flat roof. From all evidence so far seen the roof other than the sunroof car had the sculpted C6 like roof we loved on the concept. As with many "the sky is falling" issues seen so far on this car I too think this issue will work out to a majority liking.
JJJ93z 01-09-2008, 06:46 PM Maybe it will have a panorama roof option like the cayenne or dual moon roofs to keep the "c6" roof lines.
Mario92 01-17-2008, 06:02 PM I wouldn't mind if CDC did a glassback for the Camaro......
I agree a Glassback option would look great on the Camaro. I had a C5 or C6 Vette in the shop a few weeks back and it had a Taga glass top with the mohawk lines that are found on the concept.
Good Ph.D 01-17-2008, 07:06 PM I would like that, of course I would also like it if that opened up.
KevinK 02-01-2008, 07:23 AM ...I'm sure a sunroof would be "optional" if/when it's offered.
97QuasarBlue3.8 02-01-2008, 05:06 PM Sunroof = safety and comfort/fun at the same time. It's not as "open" feeling as driving a convertible or a car with t-tops, but if you need that, then buy the 'vert  With a sunroof, you can keep the rigidity of the roof, have side-curtain airbags, and shut out the rain with the flip of a switch.
Just curious--why is everyone so against them?
JasonD 02-01-2008, 05:12 PM I never took my t-tops out. When I got my Trailblazer I had the sunroof open part way or all the way every day that I could. I liked the t-tops but not enough to miss them very much.

Agreed...there's something to be said for the "click....ahhh" factor of the sunroof. T-tops require monkeying. After a while, my t-tops stayed on except for special occasions.

Absolutely! Besides owning a whole whack of convertibles over the years, starting in the 60's, (including a '71 'Vette roadster) ... and my SS with T-tops, I've only had 1 car with a sunroof - and I loved it!
Not as "in your face" as a 'vert or a T-top car, but a whole lot better than a car with no roof option at all, IMHO. (I'm just a little claustrophobic and don't like to be "coup'ed" up! :D I think a sunroof just makes a whole lotta sense for an all-year-round driver.
Best thing is that a sunroof is totally useable in the winter or in temps or conditions when you would never consider puttin' down the top or takin' out the T's!!
Best regardSS,
Elie
09camaroZ28 02-02-2008, 11:14 AM its either t-tops or hard top for me i dont feel that there should be a sunroof in the camaro
fastball 02-02-2008, 07:20 PM I know there are numerous threads about this topic on this forum elsewhere - it's been discussed many times that the 5th gen Camaro will not have T-Tops. Modern side impact and rollover safety regulations prohibit them. It's either a sunroof or convertible if you want the rays of the sun on your head.

i will take a hardtop then
Built on Sin 04-01-2008, 04:24 PM The sunroof will be "fixed", which means it will not slide back. :(
The dimensions are ~ 21"x31".

I call shinanigans on that. Come on, we're all a little tired of the April fools jokes by now.
ChevEE 04-02-2008, 08:09 AM I am trying to find them again, but I'm pretty sure I saw pics of a 5th gen somewhere that had a sunroof.... Let me see if I can find it again.
Chevycobb 04-02-2008, 09:23 AM its the white one on a test track after they pulled the camo off

No "shinanigans" here. This info is correct.
mpilarZ281992 04-03-2008, 12:15 PM ?? sunroof ?? Never had one, dont know if I would if offered. I rather have the hardtop (less stuff to malfunction in time); plus I feel safer going +100mph with the hardtop.

I meant his statement that the sunroof would not open.
I doubt GM would be so stupid as to put a fixed glass roof on the camaro with no ability to open it.

5thgen69camaro 05-06-2008, 06:19 PM Thank you.
More than welcome. It had mentioned it early on and that two roofs would need to be engineered if people wanted a sunroof. I figured/hoped since the pictures everywhere it would be safe to point out and quelch fears the mowhawk lines would not make production. The first one released is the only one Ive seen with the sunroof.
