I appologize if this thread has been done in the past. this is my first post.
i love the new camaro i think it will be the best selling car in any of the gm lineups but i have one thing that i would do to make it the best car ever. remember the COPO camaro of 1969. the 427 aluminum block and head motor with 520 hp and a m21 4 speed and what a 12 bolt posi? those days need to return. that car properly driven could get close to 10.0 in the quarter mile and i would sell my soul to the devil for a car like that again. who cares about v-6 motors and cylinder deactivation. i want a pavment destroying mustang pounding MUSCLE car that america can be proud of. give me a 2010 Camaro SS with a good old 454 c.i. big block and i would never buy another car again....until the 502 came out. i know im jsut dreaming but does anyone else have the same dream? the smallest motor that should come in the camaro is a 350 small block and that should be final. u want a v-6? go buy a mustang. u want e-85 ethanol? buy a cobalt. i am gonna buy my camaro understanding that it will get bad gas mileage on premium when im going a buck fifty down the i-5 in san diego with the supercharger whining and the TI race exhaust blaring its sweet deafening rumble. bigger is better my friends
THERE IS NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT

. and i dont care if it get 5 mpg my 55 chevy get that much and it runs primo pump gas. i just dont drive it everyday.
What you're proposing would never be possible not to mention business suicide for GM on many different angles even if it were. Plus I have a feeling the top level Camaro is going to pack a heavy enough punch to satisfy even the most hardcore horsepower junkies, without going into stratospheric levels.

o and if you make a sweet camaro with around 400 ponies and send that to lingenfelter chevy doesnt have to absorb any cost. hell i would sell a child for one if i had one.
i must admit my dreams are a bit lofty but for the last few years i have had my friends who drive mustangs throwing the camaro in my face. i want to completely and utterly crush their spirits and make them change their tune. the mustang owners in san diego will be broken and battered when i am through with them. there will not be a faster street legal mustang in california then my camaro when i am done.

300 hp from a pushrod n/a v-6 not likely. but you do something like the old buick grand nationals and ill intertain the idea shortly. i have developed a taste for japanese perfomance after the lost of my beloved camaro. the only reason why they get so much power from 6 or even 4 cylinders is valvetrain. dont get me wrong i love old pushrod motors but the general needs to take a step into the 21st century. give us dohc and 4 valves per cylinder and you have some real possibilities even from a v-6 or striaght 4 but you have to call up richard simmons cuz camaro needs a diet. those v-6 camaros will be faster than probably 95% of camaros made. but look at the crap that rolled of the assembly line in the 70s and 80s as far as motors go. all the smog garbage on those motors and you are barely getting 250hp from a 350 small block. but the COPO and YENKO camaros from back in the day will still be some of the fastest and most beautiful cars EVER. with big blocks and 500+hp even at the wieght they were in 1969 they are still fast by todays standards

Why would you want a carbeureted motor in a brand new car?
That's what the first two options are. The 400hp 6.0 liter you're referring to is most likely the LS2 and that's not going to make it into the Camaro. And none of those would be my "dream motor" anyway. I don't need a ton of horsepower to be happy anyway so I guess I'm wasting everybody's time with my reply.

Welcome to the board RyRides....I suggest you pull up a chair, grab your favorite beverage and do ALOT of reading. I think you'll find that there is more speculation on this subject than any other, aside from Z28 vs SS vs STFU.
Realistically, in order for you to get the big fire breathing motors you want, maybe you should look at building yourself a sweet 1st gen. There's no way you're going to see old school tech big blocks pounding the pavement in the 5th gen. GM has a great line of motors in the Gen III -IV-V and I don't think they will be taking a step backward.
Your current C5 should be evidence enough that you don't have sacrifice efficiency and practicality for big horsepower these days. I understand that you "don't care" care about mileage numbers and would be happy with a 5 mpg, 500 horse, hell raising Camaro, but the fact is most of would prefer a 20 mpg, 500 horse, hell raising Camaro.
And on the bright side, you could always "chip" it, like your 'Vette.

The LS2/LS3/LS7 are way, way better powerplants than the old 427s in virtually every performance (or non-performance) metric.
Perhaps "coolness" is the only thing that the old big blocks would have over the new powerplants. And if you want one that bad, go grab a GM Performance parts catalog and have at it.
And Camaros have always had a 6 cyl available. Always.

Well, it wasn't listed but, I'll take the "new" ZR1 motor...
I'm building a BBC Nova for a friend right now. A 454ci. mild, slightly lopey but streetable, mostly billet trimmed, carbed monster...for sheer intimidation factor.
Once you hear a cammed out Big Block breathing through headers, it'll send chills down your spine...
But like the "Ol saying goes, "It'll pass everthing but the Gas Station"...
