UAW ratifies contract with International

SPRINGFIELD — The tentative agreement between International Truck and Engine Corp. and the United Auto Workers union was ratified company-wide by 71 percent of the voting members Sunday.

"Our members have spoken," said John Eblin, UAW Local 402 bargaining chairperson. "It was a fair contract they're willing to work under."

About 3,700 UAW members at nine International facilities in six states voted on the 3-year agreement that was negotiated over the past five months.

Springfield is the big winner, gaining new product once a deal is finalized with General Motors Corp. to purchase its medium-duty truck production line. According to the agreement,

"This is the beginning of the renaissance is Springfield," said U.S. Rep. Dave Hobson, "and it helps everyone in town from suppliers to the schools." .
We understood what shape the Economy is in, and what this means to everyone in our community, infastructure, etc.

We gave up a lot....I hope the company will make good on its promises now.

Up to 5% temps, must utilize Master Recall list first
wages for new hires begin $13.76 max @ $17.80 after 5yrs.(currently $25+)
condensed Skilled Trade Classes
$.15 COLA diversion
No outsourcing w/o mutual agreement

Guarantee not to schedule every Saturday then cancel ones they don't need this time.
No Plant closures for duration of contract
Lose about 100 positions, non-core
Self-managed work teams
reduction in UAW stewards and commitee persons
no layoff in lieu
must perform non-job specific tasks, where safety permits
sub-contracting non-core trades
living operating agreement
