Seems like a really cool idea IF production feasible.

Disappearing car door, I want this on my next car!91_z28_4me 12-14-2007, 04:10 PM http://www.disappearing-car-door.com/#html Seems like a really cool idea IF production feasible. dream '94 Z28 12-14-2007, 04:23 PM  Holy **** that's cool. But I wonder about side impact protection? HAZ-Matt 12-14-2007, 05:09 PM ha something the 4th Gen could really use. Chrome383Z 12-14-2007, 05:14 PM  Holy **** that's cool. But I wonder about side impact protection? Agreed. There's no way that would pass Saftey Standards (as cool as it may be). 94Camaro_Z_28 12-14-2007, 05:14 PM I want to see what the interior door panels looki like km9v 12-14-2007, 05:38 PM ha something the 4th Gen could really use. The passenger side would take forever to roll up the window. Chrome383Z 12-14-2007, 07:57 PM The passenger side would take forever to roll up the window. True, on hindsite; maybe we better leave them off the 4th Gens. It would probably suffer the same twisted mysterious fate of the Window Motors and freeze halfway down. A Window sucks stuck halfway down let alone a door. Jim the Nomad 12-14-2007, 08:19 PM The references to the 4th gen window motors are dead on. "The more you over-make the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain" -Mr Scotty just more expensive stuff to break. Johnny Ray 12-14-2007, 09:04 PM I like them! FiefSS 12-14-2007, 10:16 PM One day that will probably be the norm, I'm sure they could figure out how to do it and keep the side-impact up. One day, after they figure out how to make cars weigh less again! stereomandan 12-14-2007, 10:22 PM They look awesome, but talk about possible pinch point problems. Ouch!!! They would need to make sure they have that part worked out first. Dan jg95z28 12-15-2007, 01:01 AM If you got in an accident and the vehicle lost power, how would you get out? 91_z28_4me 12-15-2007, 01:08 AM If you got in an accident and the vehicle lost power, how would you get out? Kick the ever loving crap outta the door/window? detltu 12-16-2007, 10:43 PM Definately different. I wouldn't mind seeing it on some concept cars. Aaron91RS 12-17-2007, 10:25 AM Something's not right. The concept car that, that door was in just was on ebay recently. Threxx 12-17-2007, 10:45 AM I've been seeing that car for a while now. Seems like a neat concept but I do have to question a few things about it: Added cost Added weight Added complexity/stuff to break What happens if it does break and the door is down? A tow truck would have to be called. What if the power window motor breaks? It's gonna suck to step over your window getting out. Ground clearance is a BIG question mark. Either you're going to have to hope there's no raised objects/ground under your car (or you'll get one hell of a door ding!), or else the door will have to be designed to fit inbetween the lower part of the car and floorboard and at that point I have a really hard time believing that it won't significantly effect ground clearance or headroom or something of that nature. R377 12-17-2007, 12:05 PM Ground clearance is a BIG question mark. That's the part I don't get. Doors on modern cars can easily be 8" thick at their widest point ... where's all that door going? I suppose they could customize the door to reduce that, but even if they halved the width you still have 4" to hide somewhere. The video shows it clearing a Coke can underneath the car, so we can surmise the door's not going under the body unless they jack it up like Bubba's 4x4. So then the seating would have to be raised to make it go above the floorpan, probably by a good 6" to be able to hide a 4" door. It's not like there's all this unused space between the floorboards and the ground ... there has to be a compromise somewhere. guionM 12-17-2007, 03:02 PM Cool idea. But I have the same questions as Threxx & R377. slt 12-17-2007, 05:30 PM What does the inside of the door look like? I'm imagining a roll up window shade. Threxx 12-17-2007, 05:40 PM Another big issue is if the door doesn't go 'inside' of the car, and rather goes underneath the car, then anytime you got out of your car in the rain/snow all of the crappy water/dirt/junk dripping off your undercarriage would land on the interior of your door panel. 93Zblack 12-17-2007, 07:28 PM Put it on the new camaro! Yea? Yea? that would be a sweet option to pick. | ||
