What r the rules on where to mount a parachute

I have seen the kits where you install the cross bar in place of the rear honeycomb and it comes out the liscense plate area but can I install a tube straight thru the honeycomb area, thru the sheetmeatal of the car and then weld it to rear cross member of my new frame rails, i am backhalfing and 4 linking my car and the rear cross member is 2" x 4" and the frame rails are
2"x3"

The mounting point for the actual straps of the parachute is incorporated into the rearend housing assembly. The pack(s) can be mounted where it is convenient, usually on the rear tail light panel. I don't recall seeing a parachute mounted to the chassis.

Only if you want to tear your rearend out of the car:eek:.Not that that would really happen. I personally have never seen one mounted to rear end housing. Mine has a crossbar welded to the rear frame rails with the mount welded to it that comes out thru the license plate.The parachute straps are incorporated into this mount.

You NEVER want to mount it to the rear housing unless your running a top fuel or top alcohol chassied type vehicle. Mounting it directly to the rear on an F-body will result in the rear of the car lifting upon chute deployment and you will end up with a totaled racecar.

You want to mount the chute to the frame (tubular mounting) just above the vehicles center of gavity that way you'll avoid lift at chute deployment.

so mounting it to the rear cross member that is welded at the end of my frame rails will be fine? is there a spec on the size of the tubing?
