GTOJack 12-12-2007, 08:44 AM option measures 3.1 feet by 3.8 feet, will cost $1995 and will be available on V6 and GT models in early summer 2008. The cars debut will be at NAISS in Detroit January 2008.
$2000 for a FIXED roof? Give me a large power sunroof for half that.
maksik7 12-12-2007, 09:12 AM Maybe its a targa top?? you have a link?
Silverado C-10 12-12-2007, 09:13 AM Sounds like something I wouldn't like, even if it was free.
GTOJack 12-12-2007, 09:26 AM Its not a targa top. It comes with a manual roller blind to block out light on sunny days. There is a pic of it in todays Detroit News.
This is the reason why the new Mustang will keep the same roofline.
JasonD 12-12-2007, 10:13 AM I have put a lot of personal thought into something like this, and I would not want to have that, even if the price was half (which I feel is more reasonable). I don't think it would be as cool as it all sounds and for me, I think the novelty would wear off quickly.
94Camaro_Z_28 12-12-2007, 10:33 AM T-tops or nothing....A gimic like a fixed glass roof isn't going to do any good. I personally don't want t-tops to let light in, I want them so that I can have an open roof over my head without having a vert.
And $2000? Thats a little up there.
I think it sounds cool. I'm not sure what a good price would be but $2000 is too much.
CAMAROJOE 12-12-2007, 10:40 AM Wouldn't want it.

Northwest94Z 12-12-2007, 10:43 AM I actually think it looks cool and has a neat effect but for the price and then considering the safety issues I'm not sure I would opt for it.
flowmotion 12-12-2007, 10:47 AM These look cool from the outside at least. Not sure if I would like it so much on the inside though.
I remember the rumors awhile back that the Mustang would get T-tops. Is this what those rumors actually were, or is it still eventually getting T-tops?
IREngineer 12-12-2007, 11:25 AM This was originally done at Saleen (ASC). I've sat in one and it is pretty cool, but not quite the same as T's. It was about 95 with full sun that day, and it got pretty hot in there. The sun shade will come in handy. All in all, I would pay the extra money for the vert if I wanted the open roof experience.
Eric77TA 12-12-2007, 11:32 AM Too bad it's not electrochromatic. Now THAT might be worth a couple grand.
graham 12-12-2007, 12:02 PM Thatd be pretty sweet on a bright night!
97z28/m6 12-12-2007, 12:02 PM i think its cool. don't think i'd buy it tho.
mdenz3 12-12-2007, 12:08 PM
anasazi 12-12-2007, 12:24 PM t-tops are pointless, i think i've had mine out maybe 20 times in 4 years and they ALWAYS have the sun shade installed because its impossible to remove while inside the car.
Z28Wilson 12-12-2007, 01:22 PM t-tops are pointless, i think i've had mine out maybe 20 times in 4 years...
Correction, they are pointless to you and you explained why. And that's ok. There are many more (like me) who will miss them greatly on the 5th Gen.
And what exactly is the point of this glass roof option? If I'm spending $2,000 on an optional roof configuration, it certainly better not be there at all when I don't want it to be.
90 Z28SS 12-12-2007, 05:20 PM I would buy this , even if it didnt open . Im not a vert guy and I just cannot deal with solid roof . I rarely open the roof in the SS , but I love the glass above ...the shade is never closed unless it really cold :D
ProudPony 12-12-2007, 05:42 PM The all-glass roof is not a new concept for the Mustang, but Ford offering it is.

Good Ph.D 12-12-2007, 06:11 PM For that price, I would probably choose T-tops if available, but I would definetly be interested in this. It's a really nice effect on the cars I've been in with it.
It would be nicer, and I would be more interested if it opened, even if that meant rails through... Camaro better have something for us.
Sharker524 12-12-2007, 06:59 PM I think its pretty neat. The only reason I like any of it(sunroofs, TTops, targas, etc.) is so I can look up at the sky at night and ****. Looks cool :D
Kris93/95Z28 12-12-2007, 07:20 PM Looks cool to me.
Cheap Guy 12-12-2007, 07:35 PM t-tops are pointless, i think i've had mine out maybe 20 times in 4 years and they ALWAYS have the sun shade installed because its impossible to remove while inside the car.
I left mine off for days at a time this summer. Even had them off a few times this fall in cooler weather. Really depends on where you live I guess and how much you like fresh air.
Josh452 12-12-2007, 07:36 PM Umm.....buy the 'vert???
BigDarknFast 12-12-2007, 09:50 PM Thatd be pretty sweet on a bright night!
Agreed. I love the idea, and believe it will be popular despite the price. I love my Formula's t-tops, and on moonlit nights they are awesome even if not removed. Kudos to Ford for offering this.
Gold_Rush 12-12-2007, 10:15 PM I like it. Not enough to spend 2grand on it, but i could see myself choosing it if it was a $800 option.
HAZ-Matt 12-13-2007, 01:23 AM It's neat. I might consider it if I was going to buy one. But I wouldn't be sad if I got a normal roof either.
formula79 12-13-2007, 01:42 AM The place that put a sunroof in my GTO had a Glassback Mustang GT as the shop car. They had to drive me around in it, and the thing was so hot inside I about sweat through my boxers. After that, there is no way in the world would I want a huge glass roof on any of my cars.

I guess that's why they have the rolling shade on the factory option. I've had t-top Firebirds for years... in hot weather I just crank up the AC higher. In fact the only time I really get hot in my Firebird is when the tops are actually removed... and even then it's not an issue if you're rolling. I'm not understanding what's so uncomfortable
GTOJack 12-13-2007, 06:57 PM I think it would have the effect of a magnifying glass on your head. And what would it cost if it broke? Insurance companies wont be happy. People spend a lot of money in this country to keep sun OUT of their vehicles. Would the dragstrips treat the car as a hardtop? Its just something I personally would not be interested in.

T-top Fbodies are considered hardtops at the strip. Why wouldn't a glassroof Mustang? Both have a heavy structural frame over top the occupants...
