don't have 1st and overdrive

What would make fisrt and overdrive not work? The car has been sitting since the last time it was drove for about 2 month and now has no first or overdrive.

Stuck valve body or more likley the 1-2 (a) solenoid, It controls both 1st and 4th. Do you have a check engine light if so get it scanned ,
