I recently bought a new K&N air filter. I was looking through some of the threads and I was surprised to here that some are chosing paper over K&N. Which paper is the best, because I was thinking about switching back to the paper. Any advise please.

I'm actually doing the same since my last oil report was showing I had a huge amount of unfiltered air going into the motor. My guess is the "rechargings" of my K&N have lessened it's usefulness as a filter. I heard Wix or Amsoil is the way to go.

How often were you cleaning the K&N? They are only good for 25 cleanings. K&N recommends a cleaning interval as high as 50,000 miles.

every 12k to 15k I was cleaning it.

They filter better when dirty just because there is more for new particles to collide with.

I quit using K&Ns after seeing UOAs on bitog with high silicon from K&N users. Besides, seems to be no hp advantage over paper, so I decided it wasn't worth it to me, went back to paper.

It's hard to argue the point if someone has the oil analysis on hand. However, I'm left wondering about air entering the intake tract somewhere after the filter. I know my K&N with the SLP lid was not sealing well until the gasket beneath the filter was added. The jury is still out for me as I'm reading more posts against the K&N. I can say this though, my filter is visually removing a lot of particles on my 01 as the underside shows quite a lot of dirt from only a thousand miles of fair weather pavement travel. I don't know what to think about the horsepower claims as they seem to go both ways from credible sources.

Paper. Unless you're running major HP, paper flows more than enough for an LS1. Why take the chance for zero performance gains?
