Is anybody running this combination? I wonder if the original airbox will fit and work correctly under the Suncoast Hood.
This is for a 1996 Z28.
Input appreciated.

Suncoast SS Hood & original SS airbox?Ricardo 11-14-2007, 04:02 PM Is anybody running this combination? I wonder if the original airbox will fit and work correctly under the Suncoast Hood. It would be interesting to hear if anyone has modified their air box to make it work. sykodave 11-15-2007, 06:41 AM i believe it works if i remember correctly. we fitted a suncoast hood on a 96 ss and it fit in there correctly. this was about 5 or 6 years ago though Ricardo 11-15-2007, 10:10 AM I don't think they will work together. I expect your stock airbox opens in the front not on the top. The Suncoast hood rams air from the top of the air box. It would be interesting to hear if anyone has modified their air box to make it work. Both airboxes are open from the top. I hava e Suncoast airbox and it resembles closely the SS airbox. I think they might even use the same filter. I just dont like the 90 deg bend on the suncoast airbox right in front of the MAF. i believe it works if i remember correctly. we fitted a suncoast hood on a 96 ss and it fit in there correctly. this was about 5 or 6 years ago though Thanks for your comments, sykodave. That is exactly what I am planning to do. Ricardo 12-16-2007, 09:49 AM Well, I went ahead and did it. I got an original SS airbox from SLP and installed it under my Suncoast SS hood. All I had to do were minor positioning adjusments of the Suncoast hood, cut two small notches in the airbox cavity to clear the air filter hold down latches and a little creativity using foam to seal the airbox to the hood in the back. I am very pleased with the results. SuncoastPrez 12-28-2007, 08:58 PM Well, I went ahead and did it. I got an original SS airbox from SLP and installed it under my Suncoast SS hood. And how to do it. afr lt1 12-29-2007, 11:12 AM I just did this about a month or so ago. I ditched the airbox that came with my Suncoast hood because I got a deal on an original z28/SS airbox(that be from the year 1996 only). The 1996 z28/ss box did not fit right away. All I had to do was cut down about 2-3 inches on the metal air pump tube that was sitting under the elbow of the new airbox. ( I think that is what that pipe is called). All fits great now. Also, I used something called a "knuckle" pipe cutter in order to get into that tight space by the pipe. - If anyone wants pics, post or send me an email. - Oh yeah, the original z28/ss airbox is a good size larger than the suncoast. Definately cannot cross use filters. blackbirdta 12-29-2007, 01:27 PM i didn't think there would be a problem. the '96 z i have has a suncoast ss hood and i was going to put my ss air box on...maybe i won't even bother now. i was thinking about ditching the suncoast hood altogether since it has ugly hood pins that i don't like. Ricardo 12-30-2007, 12:21 PM This is pretty much what needs to be done to the SUNCOAST HOOD: I used a piece of 2x4 foam trimmed to the shape of the airbox cavity in the back. On the sides I used the weatherstrip self adhesive material supplied in the SLP airbox kit. It can be bought at other places I'm sure. Its a D shaped sponge rubber weatherstrip material (hollow) measuring 1x1. the two notches in the front are to to clear the filter hold down latches. http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj90/reguzmans/Z28/DSC00562.jpg You can clearly see the contact lines where the airbox contacts this material. I have HOOKER LT's so I was not aware of the possible interference of the AIR Tube, and I agree with afr Lt1, the air filter is much bigger than the one supplied with the Suncoast airbox. | ||
