LE2 traction with MT DR's and salad shooters?

With around 400 RWHP, how much traction can I expect to get if I put MT DR's on the rear with my stock rims? I'm referring to daily driving traction (playing around town, etc....not at the track. Also, are they relatively safe in the rain and how many miles might I expect to get from a set if they see NO track time or burnouts....just daily driving and nailing it here and there?

The tires are great on the street. I used to lift the front end pretty significantly when I had the DRs on.

BTW, I'm selling mine. ;) They only have a handful (I think 3) 1/8th mile passes on them so they're barely used. They're 255/50/16 ET Street Radials on silver painted salad shooters.

Not recommended for wet weather driving. The general consensus seems to be:

Nitto: OK on wet pavement
BFG: Marginal in the wet
M/T: Poor in the wet

Never used the M/T's. I do run the BFG's for the street, and with that rwHP level its marginal traction with 4.10's (TH400 has a 2.48 1st) and a high stall converter. It was better with 3.73's but the 4.10's seemed to push it over the edge.

Thanks....I'm still running my stock 3.23's, I bet they would stick pretty well then......how bout mileage out of them given my conditions (street driving, no burnouts or track time) ?

Nitto NT555R's in a 315/35R17.

Great mileage, good wet weather handling, and awesome traction on the street. I am runing 4.10's and I think the Nitto's would be the way to go for u.

yeah...i really would like to go with wider rims, but the ole' hot rod is seriously draining the bank lately and that's why i was considering going the cheap route for now and throwing some MT DR's on my stock rims to get the traction i need. i just don't really know what to expect for mileage on the street with no burnouts or track time.

my buddy was running 255 bfg's on a cammed 5.3L swapped camaro. he was running low 12's on the motor/ high 11s on the spray and he was hooking great at the track. he also had 4.56 gears in the rear and he was letting the clutch go @ 5k rpms.

when i had 275 m/t's on my car, they weren't horrible in the rain. they weren't the best either, but I always made sure not go above 70 and just take it easy.

Prolly not, 10 mm isn't a big visual difference.

You can tell some difference, but like rickjames said, its not much.

I actually have a set of stock wheels with 245/50 on the front and 255/50 MT drag radials on the rear. I will snap some pics tonight and post them.

I ran the 255 50 R16s for a while on the 16x8 stockers and they hooked to 1.55 60's and made for a great sleeper look...Those little tires don't get enough credit...They work well because they give you more sidewall than a 17" and also give more front to back tire contact patch which is so important in drag racing...Its definitely the economical and smart way to go...

They work very well on the street for me. I got 6k miles on my first set with some track use and much street abuse. I run a spooled 9" rear, and I have driven with them in the rain. If you cannot be careful when your driving in the rain, then these tires are not for you. Once the tires get very low on tread they are noticably worse in weather, but thats the same for any tires.
