I was wondering how the Silverstar Bulbs are, I want to Put them in my stock 95 Headlights .But was wondering if they burn out fast ??
Need Info !! Thanks
teke184 11-14-2007, 09:02 AM only ran them for about 10K miles....never burned out.
they are a nicer looking light...whiter. but they really don't light the road better in my experience.
i felt it was a nice upgrade.
but now i have the upgraded harness and some Luks 100w bulbs. they brighten things up nice.
i got the standard color...not the hyper-whites. so the color is similar to stock but much brighter. when one burns out i plan to go with the hypers.
luks even sells the upgraded fog light bulbs now i think....been a while since i've looked.
a web search should get the info you want.
the harness i got was $35...
96 Z 28 11-14-2007, 09:41 AM Are you looking for more light or a bulb that lasts???
For More Light an HIR Bulb is the answer, although they last the least amount of time and are not cheap:(
I just opted for the Xenon Optilux 100W XBs for my Subaru, and they definitely help light wise, though not even close to the HIRs in our other Subaru, but they should last a lot longer.
9005 Bulb Choices from Rallylights.com (http://www.rallylights.com/hella/9005.asp)
Dedicated Driving lights may also be an option, the XBs plus Hella FF75s definitely lights up the road:D
Ken S 11-14-2007, 01:28 PM Hey good question, I'm looking for a lights that last at least as long as stock for my 99. I have almost all, but one sidemarker , thats stock. They are getting dimmer though.
Whats the stock wiring harness rated for in watts?
I thought I read the silverstar's don't last as long as stock, which is why I'm a bit leering of trying them... but I have no first or 2nd hand experience with them.

I used Xtravisions for my low beams, had I read the link above 1st, would have just gone with regular bulbs. 60 extra lumins for much less life, not a good trade for me.
More good info:

I've posted these links before, people didn't buy it.
Ken S 11-14-2007, 07:19 PM Sweet, thanks for the info!

Standard 9006 halogen (low beam): 1000 lumens, 800 hour rated life $6
Sylvania 9006 Xtravision (low beam): 1060 lumens, 300 hour rated life $10
GE 9006 Nighthawk (low beam): 1150 lumens, 250 hour rated life $14
Toshiba HIR 9006 (low beam): 1800 lumens, 800 hour rated life $27
Sylvania 9006 Silverstar (low beam): 910 lumens, 150 hour rated life $20
Looks like the HIR's are the way to go!
n2ceptor 11-14-2007, 09:52 PM Here's another site that might help.....:) Plus, search in the Appearance Section, there are other opinions there...

Ken S 11-14-2007, 11:08 PM EDIT: okay, i get it now..

THe lowbeams last pretty long, the high beam equivs, not really..
dalynchmob 01-10-2008, 08:30 AM Can the stock wiring handle a full set of silverstars? 2 9005s and 2 9006s. Thinking about doing this but don't want to fry my wires.
Greed4Speed 01-10-2008, 10:19 AM I haven't been too impressed even with the SilverStar Ultras.
Philips makes the Vision Plus that is a good bulb, but they now have the Xtreme Power XP that is reported to be 80% brighter.
I'm not sure if either come in sealed beam for your 95 though.
dalynchmob 01-10-2008, 04:43 PM Are the stock light connections to the camaro sealed beams the same as the 9005s and 6s?
JakeRobb 01-10-2008, 04:57 PM I used Silverstars on the last two cars I've owned. I like them -- good bulb for the money. When a bulb on the Camaro burns out, I'll probably go with those again (unless I have enough money to upgrade to HID).
