GT500 Super Snake. 4,085 lbs. 605 hp. 1/4m 12.5 sec. Handling? Not really.

Well it handled better than the GT500, course this begs the question, are 20 inch tires and 6 piston calipers, along with some bolt in bracing really worth it? That has got to be where the extra 200 pounds comes in. IMO, I'd try and take it in the other direction. They could've added some Dymag wheels, 2 piece rotors, and an aluminum driveshaft for probably close to a 100 lbs weight savings (of course all told this would have added about 10k+ to the price of the car, but hell at this stage of the game whats 10k)
Shelby is laughing all the way to the bank, idiots paying that much for a 4000lb Mustang. Where is the old 2000 Cobra R, that was a bad *** ride! Heck it wasn't much slower and handled a heck of a lot better not to mention weighed 400lb's less.
It ran 68.4 mph in the 700 ft slalom (vs. their speed of 66.2 mph for the GT500), and pulled 0.93g (vs. 0.87g). I know numbers aren't everything, but those are respectable numbers, especially for a 4000 lb bruiser...
I'm not a Mustang guy so this car doesn't appeal to me. But I still think it's cool.
Yes, you can band-aid an overweight pig with good tires, the right springs/shocks, etc, and get it to handle quite well.
I guess its good evidence that you can have an over-weight pig of a vehicle and still make it handle well, despite its heft (helps the arguement we read from those that aren't at all worried about the weight of the 2010 Camaro).
Now take the same car with 500 fewer lbs to throw around and see what it does in the slalom....or braking.....or skidpad...or [insert handling metric here].

But yes, I'm sure the car would be even more fun at 3500 lbs.
I think it looks pretty cool.
But... have we reached the point of diminishing returns here?
I mean we've got 605 hp here. SIXHUNDREDAND FIVEHORSEPOWER! And only mid 12's down the 1/4 mile. Isn't that simply ridiculous?
You know, I just think everything is going in the wrong direction. 4,100 lbs and street tires - wouldn't matter if this car came with an extra 1,000 hp, it wouldn't be much faster.
Here's another thing. 2 plus tons and $70,000 for a Mustang. I just see so much wrong with this picture.
Anyway, just me, but I would have rather seen every last nickel of that 28K go for weight reduction.
