That program is just now underway, the vehicles are either in the hands of drivers or about to be. Read an update at C&G the other day. I'll get the link and post it.

Does anyone actualy think hydrogen cars will ever be common?

Seems to me that electric / alcohol is cheaper, better (power in vs. power out) and would require less infrastructure to support.

In short.

After seeing GM's figures on how/why hydrogen will happen all I can say is, absolutely hydrogen powered cars will be common.

i could be wrong but i really think this is the technology of the future. i see the hybrid as a band aid for are current problem. Electric cars have a huge draw back if you want to take a road trip you can only go so far before you have to stop for X amount of hours to recharge the battery. E85 was a nice idea but isnt and never will be very efficient.

But, E85 is a viable option for people with street rods and classics when "gas" is gone

Hydrogen is the way of the future

I'm just curious to see how the timing of all of this works out. Making hydrogen and then compressing it into a usable form takes a sh*tload of energy. Currently here in the US the electricity to do that comes primarily from coal - not exactly the hot ticket to reducing greenhouse gases (although reducing reliance on imported oil is indeed a nice benefit).

BMW has made some interesting presentations on the way that they see alternative energy rolling out, and the impression I got is that any company who puts all its eggs in one basket is acting foolishly. Hydrogen is certainly part of our future, but so are a lot of other fuels.

eric do you have some articles on other fuels you can post? Also do you have a link to the bmw article? id really like to read more on alternative fuels and im sure other board members would to.

the biggest problem i see with them is that there can ultimetly only be one. As you cant have refilling stations with 30 types of fuels.

Another really cool idea i saw thay the have thats working is the compressed air engine/car which is really neat.
