Breslin Header Bolts?

Anyone ever purchased from this company, http://www.apo.com.au/ ? I sent them an email a week or so ago and haven't heard anything.

From reading various posts, I get the impression that the Breslin split locks used to be the preferred header bolt. Considering that they're no longer sold in the US, I was just curious if anyone had ever dealt with this company, or knew why the bolts might still be available for sale in Australia.

If this is legit, are they worth the extra money? International shipping alone is listed at 40 bucks.

I'm assuming I would want either of the following:

600-101 SB GM/GM V6 (not 2.8ltr)/BB Chrysler/AMC-V8 (suit Holden V8) 12 3/8"X1" 12pt $111.00

600-102 BB GM/SB & BB Ford 16 3/8"X1" 12pt $141.00

I'm assuming those are the same bolt, just a different package quantity.

Breslin was an Australian company. Someone may have bought out their remaining stock, or someone may have taken over the business.

I have some $12 stainless bolts from summit....they work like a charm.

I would rather tighten the bolt no matter how hard it is than spend that kind of money

I got mine off of summit racing prolly a little more then a year ago... Do they really not sell them anymore from there?

The breslins are great in design but they are a pain to install when you have very little room to turn a wrench. They have 12 pt heads which limit tool options and then you have to tighten down the allen key pin that goes through the center.

I'm actually going to be replacing my breslins with some arbs w/ lock washers.

EDIT: Heres the link to summit from back when I got em, the picture is wrong however. http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=BPP-200-102&N=4294923429+4294908331+4294839039+4294888324&autoview=sku

Lock washers loose their spring force very quickly due to the heat of the exhaust system.

With the right tools, wouldn't 12 point heads make it easier to tighten the bolts in a tight space.

no

Sometimes the six is better.....you have to use a box end for a 12. Most headers I have had the pipe was touching the head of the bolt it was so close. No way at all to get a boxed end wrench on it

I run them on my Lt1....

its been well over two yeas and I have not had one problem with them.....

Unlike mdacton ,I would rather spend the coin then cranking down on my header bolts every weekend.

I have run them on my car as well with mixed results, some of them backed out and some of them didn't so IDK. Personally I think that running a grade 8 bolt and lock washer is fine, worked great for me so far. The important thing, for me at least, was to get the inch long bolts instead of the 3/4.

I would also rather spend a little more for a good bolt and most people seem to rave about these bolts. It's unfortunate that they are no longer widely available. The only place I've found that carries the Breslins is the site I posted, which was posted by someone else in another thread. They haven't returned my email. I may try to give them a call.

Order form still seems functional.

No idea if APO is a surplus liquidator of if they have started production again.

Yeah, their order form seems to work. I'm just concerned that they never responded to my email. I could call them, but I've never placed an international call. Maybe it's time to learn. There seems to be a huge time difference.

I finally heard back from these guys. They pretty much confirmed what everyone already knew. The owner of the company died and the company subsequently went out of business. They said they have a very limited inventory. I'm still waiting to hear back as to whether they have the 1" header bolts for an LT1 in stock.

Guys, I have a friend that still has them in stock. I am not sure of what quantity or finish. He has a shop here in Stockton Ca, 209-462-6800 if that helps at all.

Well, last night the guys in Australia informed me that they are out of the stainless bolts. They have one set remaining of the black oxide bolts. Won't the black oxide bolts be prone to rusting? If not, I would probably be interested in those.

In the meantime, I'm going to contact 2 Many Toys friend in Cali. I really had my heart set on finding some of these bolts. This can't be happening. It's almost frickin' Christmas.

I found some of the stainless steel bolts. Yay.

I called 2 Many's friend, but found some elsewhere before I was able to speak with him. The guy I found has a few more sets. The part # is 600-102, which is the big block set. It's the same bolt, but you get 16 bolts instead of 12. If interested, shoot me a PM. I'm not sure whether it's appropriate to post up the guy's contact info.

I am so glad to hear this!
I am about to start working on my 96 Formula and wanted to use a set of these, I have had a set on my V8 S-10 for years with no problems at all.

Bringing it back from the dead. Yes, Percy's bought out Breslin. also, to make installs in tight spots a little easier, they have 3/8" 12 point heads. Gives a decent amount more clearance over the 7/16" head.

I have found great success with stainless steel socket head bolts. They
are easy to install and for subsequent tightening, and they have a very
clean look to them. The added bonus is that I only paid $5.50 for a set
of 12 from a local commercial fastener shop:

I was really happy to find some of the original Breslin stainless steel bolts, but I had to grind down the box end of a 12 point 3/8" wrench to get access to some of the bolts. All in all, it wasn't a big deal.

I was going to do this, in fact I even went out and bought the bolts. Then, for some reason I got paranoid since stainless steel bolts are a lower grade (grade 3-5 I believe), with lower tensile strength. Header bolts, however, have a tensile strength of more than grade 8. When I really thought about it though, I can't see why bolts that strong would be needed.
