My car wont turn right away? Video Inside

It can be cold in the morning and it still plays the dont start game. Here is a video link that shows the exact same problem that I am having, only my car is a 2002 M6, TA, and in the video it is a 94 automatic Z28. I tried to contact the guy but I havent recieved a reply. Any body know of this problem?

Incase you cant watch the link, the problem is that I turn the key and it does not start or even turn the starter, but the gauges move and indicate that the key is turned, with NO SES light.
If I hold the key in the start position though eventualy the engine cranks over and starts.
I tried both keys. I tried not turning on the alarm or locking the doors with the factory remote, I checked the fuses, the battery is good.

If it was an M6, I'd say check the clutch switch. With it being an auto in the video, I'm not so sure. It may be a problem with the wiring in the steering column or ignition cylinder.

Check your relays. I had a similar issue with my Camaro and it went away after replacing the starter/ignition relays. You should be able to tell if they are worn. Local auto parts store should carry them.

If it's an M6, there should be a switch at the top of the clutch pedal that detects whether or not the clutch is engaged.

What I was refering to in the column is the wiring to the ignition cylinder - the module you insert your key into - or the cylinder itself.

I'd start by pulling the starter relay and connecting a test light to it to see if the relay is getting a power and ground signal when you turn the key to start. If the light comes on right away you know the probelm is with the starter, if it doesn't it's in the ignition or the switch on the clutch pedal.

Ok, so I am looking for a switch at the top of the clutch?:confused: Under the dash? Also, I will be looking at the relay, under the hood? This is in the fuse box under ther the hood right? I need to find the one that says starter? How do I test this relay? I have a ohm meter, and a light bulb tester. Sorry, I use to be so into cars, and now I have 2 kids and I am so out of it.

Relay = on the side of the dash inbetween driver's side door (remove panel)

Actually the starter/ignition relays are located under the hood, they should be labeled on the lid for the box.

The starter relay is located UNDER THE HOOD in one of the electrical boxes on the driver side inner fender. The lids are labled for what all the relays are for. This is what the under side of the relay looks like. All the prongs are usually labled.

Here is what I would do. If the car only does it in the morning then I would do this first thing BEFORE you try to start it.

Remove the starter relay and momentarily install a jumper wire between pin 30 and 87. This will cause the starter to operate immediately and probably throw off a spark when you put the wire in. If the starter does not crank right away, your starter is the problem. If tha is good I would connect a test light between pins 85 and 86 and then turn the key to start while watching the test light. Does the light light up immedattely? If it does the problem a sticking relay, borrow one from the A/C or driving lights and test. If it doesn't light up immediately the problem is most likely either the clutch switch or the ignition switch.

Well if it helps, last night after a Halloween party, the car wouldnt start at all, so we tried pushing it, and it started right up. Still waiting on my day to loan mehis test light.

Did you find out what was causing the problem?
