spare tire dilemma

Hello all..
My spare tire has a deep cut on it (dunno how cos it's only used once in it's lifetime) and I am told by a tire shop here that i gotta get a new one.

We have two Chevy authorized dealers in this contry and neither of them would sell me a spare tire coz they say that it's not in their system or among the list of Camaro spares: "we dont sell tires, only spares".

My tire guy said to order one from the US. The wheels are fine it's just a tire. Can any regular tire brand go with this? or would I have to order one from the states?
Thanks.

Isn't is a "compact" spare? Why not look for one in a local junk yard?

Thanks. yes it's a compact one. I'll check the junkyard. So I guess I will have to get the manufacturer's product. No way out...

There's always some in the For Sale section of the board...

Shipping to Dubai would be killer, though!

would pre-1998 models have the same spare tire? I'm thinking coz the junk yard would mainly have those models, never seen a post 1998 model in the Jyard.

Shipping to dubai might be a killer but hey guess what...the dealers here have priced GM parts so high that often even after shipping from the US it's twice the price here!

According to the parts manual, '93-'96 uses a 15x4 wheel, whereas the '97-'02 is a 16x4.

I would suspect that the 15" spares would not fit over the later models' larger brakes, especially the front.
