Fleet sales lists

We often talk about fleet sales, so here's actual lists which can be pulled up and referenced by typing in Fleet Sales.

Kind of sad to see that many American cars have such huge numbers of fleet sales, and with some being over half.

Over 50% sold to fleets for any particular model is downright absurd. You cannot be making any money on a car like that.

Noeworthy items:

* Crown Vic's fleet sales are over 90%
* Chrysler crossfire is 70% to fleets!
* 43% of Mazda 5s go to fleet sales.
* The fleet geared Malibu Classic sold only 8% to fleet.
* 61 Mustangs went to government sales (police?).
* 58.5% of Town Cars went to fleet sales... meaning 41.5% are still sold to the public.
* Only 1 Cadillac XLR went to a rental agency. Only 9% of CTS did.
* 77% of all Grand Prixs went rental

300/Charger/Magnum are ridiculous.

Something to consider for the RWD Uber Alles folks.

I would think you would have to make some money or you wouldn't be doing it?
Margins might be low, but it's made up in volume.

What governmant agency, state, local or federal made the case for a 1 Porsche Cayman and 1 BMW M6? I would blame the mayor of Detroit but he can't fit in either of them!

That has to be police cars. Makes total sense.

I think the next highest is the Avenger at 79%. I'm thinking that all of the rental agencies needed to replace their Stratuses, and so they bought Avengers instead, spiking the rental portion of the sales numbers.

My guess is that once Avenger has been on dealer lots for a full year, that number will go down a bit.

They don't "make money" on fleet sales, but the volume associated allows them to make more money on non-fleet sales. That 36% fleet rate might allow GM to sell a G6 $1000 cheaper to you or I than if it were 5%.

There is a delicate balance between whoring your cars out to fleet (and killing resale) and ignoring fleet (and making your cars cost more). I think that the ideal % of fleet for most volume cars is around 10-15% for the US OEM's.

Sebring and Avenger are even more ridiculous. I don't think that means that midsize FWD sedans aren't viable, I think it means that Mopar has work to do.

Don't forget a huge amount of fleet cars can lower the resale value. This makes the overall cost of ownership calculations higher, since you'll get less money back when you sell it at the end. Lots of people care about that too.
