BS. Motor Trend doesn't know sh*t. They're still reporting that the Camaro will have an LS2 in it.

Did MT test a production one?

How much HP does it take to get a 4000lbs. car down the 1/4mi. in 11.7? These sound like MT guesses. I want to see some real production #'s for this car.

Think about it. It's rumored to have between 450-480 HP. We KNOW it weighs a little over 3800 lbs. There's no way it's running an 11.7 1/4 mile.

This thing is getting a lot of hype to the point that it may never measure up. I am tired of hearing how great the GTR is going to be. I just want to see what the production version can or can not do.

You are forgetting it is AWD.... faster 60' means quicker 1/4 mile time.

jcamere94z28 that isnt true. just because they can launch a good 60 ft dont mean they will perform well in 1/4 mi. Ive had an STi beat me off the line but i got em a little after half way.

The STI time will be as fast as your but a lower trap speed.

But it is true, AWD normally will always have a better 60 ft, and a better 1/4 time.

The STI you raced wasnt driven right, or you have a 12 second car. They weigh 3300lbs with 293 hp and are low 13 second cars, trapping ~103mph when driven correctly. A 275hp, 3500lbs LT1 F-body is hard pressed to break into the 13s and break 100mph.

They are that quick because of the AWD launch combined with their short gearing. Evo's are even quicker. I really expect this GTR, even with its curb weight disadvantage to be a low 12 second car, and 11's wouldn't totally suprise me. Theres too many unknowns about this car to speculate how it'll run just based off curb weght and hp.

I wouldn't be surprised either if there was some type of launch control built into the car which prevents you from doing a high rpm clutch drop and stressing the transmission. I believe that both the new Evo X and Audi R8 have similar systems to protect their DSG transmissions. A manual transmission option will probably be necessary to see this cars full straight line potential... something its not even built for in the first place.

Most magazines are written and laid out well in advance of the news stand date, so the information you read in them is almost always dated.

Isn't the Z06 as fast as a 911 Turbo at Z06 price?

According to Car and Drivers last lightning lap, the Z51 Vette was as faster than the 911 Turbo at VIR.

Maybe so, but they were still reporting well after the LS3 was revealed.

I'm more than willing to bet I could do a better researching job than any of the writers at the major car magazines (Car & Driver, Road and Track, Motor Trend).

The Z51 is already faster than a 911 turbo, so..

I don't get it, the physics don't add up. Even with 530 hp, at 3800 lbs vs 3100....

It's like those articles claiming the M3's and GT500 KR's could keep up with the vettes... crazy talk.
