I thought these things were supposed be good like, forever. I guess not but only a year and a half and not even 5k miles and they are rusting at the bottom. Is that normal? How can I prevent it further? Will the surface rust come off and how? And lastly if I were to get them recoated how much would it cost? Thanks, Zach

I've always use ultra fine steel wool to remove light rust from chrome without damaging it, so I think that might work for you.. It sounds like something you might have to keep up on and apply a coat of high temp ceramic paint as needed.....a pain in the butt, I know, but it might be all you can do aside from new headers

Don't Jet-Hot headers come with a warranty?

The coating didnt last for me. I had a set of long tubes coated by Jet Hot, and started to rust less than 2 years later. My car is also always garage kept. Sold them and went with Kooks.

The coating is a THERMAL BARRIER not a rust preventative. I keep telling people that if they want rust prevention to pony up and get stainless. All the coated headers I've seen get rust down where the primaries turn back and on towards the collector.

They're fine on my buddy's car.. Been on for a couple years. And yeah, could be surface rust. My Dual coated SLP LT's have some surface rust/corrosion on them after 3 years.

Things don't rust in NM like they do in other areas. :D

The car sat for 2 years in CT.. In a garage w/ minimum insulation too, FWIW..

To my enjoyment I called jet hot and all headers bought from them come with one free recoat so I will be doing that. They told me that you can keep the shine if you polish them before you put them on with a polishing compound for polishing wheels like mother's. They said if you polish them once a year or more the coat should stay looking new for a long time. Thanks for the replies and if anyone else has rusting coated headers, there is your answer on how to prevent it.

Ya, that sounds like a fun job polishing the lower part of the primaries.
