Tricked-Out-Toy 10-09-2007, 01:18 PM Ok I know there are a TON of talented Photo Shop ppl on here but I havent seen one with a Targa top yet. Since its been confirmed there will be a B-pillar it will deffinetly be a possibility for the aftermarket.
I personally would seriously consider doing the conversion but I want to see what it looks like first as well as making sure the structure is still reinforced.
Theres a company that speciallizes in Corvette stuff and they have been doing the Tarag top conversion on the C6 Z06's and its looks absolutely perfect, like it was factory. and they say the structual reinforcment brings the chassis rigidity back to stock specs......
Rampant 10-09-2007, 01:38 PM look around, I did one a while ago.
No B-pillar though.
found it....

Tricked-Out-Toy 10-09-2007, 01:43 PM Ya Ive seen that one, but I wanted something thats more "factory" with the B-pillar. that one just looks funny....
Rampant 10-09-2007, 04:38 PM Honestly, I don't quite get everyone's obsession with the B-pillar. It doesn't make that much of a difference.
Targa tops look odd with or without the B-pillar, just as the coupe looks great with or without it.

jg95z28 10-09-2007, 07:32 PM If you're looking for a targa or t-top, your best bet will be to wait for the aftermarket to create a hardtop for the convertible.
JeremyNYR 10-10-2007, 09:56 AM The reason that a targa conversion on a C6 can look perfect and factory is that they're undoubtedly using factory parts! It's incredibly doubtful that any company will design and perform targa conversions for the brand new 5th gen.
Here are my reasons:
1- incredibly expensive R&D work.
2- major liability if problems occur and brand new vehicles are damaged.
3- very limited interest in a major modification to a brand new vehicle.
4- The price to the customer will be very high, especially considering the car payments they're making on their new Camaro.
Rampant 10-10-2007, 02:31 PM ^ These guys will probably do it:

They did it for the new Mustang, why not the Camaro? They have the parts (latches, etc.), just an issue of fitting it to the car.

while the pictures are impressive, this is the first line of text on their site:
"As of 1/1/2007 JMS Products Inc. / Ironman Custom will be formerly ceasing normal operations."
I'll assume they meant "formally", rather than "formerly". I'll also assume that they won't be working on a Camaro Targa any time soon.
The Mustang one does make me like the concept more though having seen an actual targa created for a vehicle that wasn't designed with one in mind.

This place http://www.caravaggiocorvettes.com/dev2007/home.html had to do ALOT of R&D on the C6 and NO they didnt use off the shelf Parts. the chassis stiffening was the most difficult for them and they do say in there article in the Dec 07 issue of Corvette magizine that it was costly but in the end they retain the same rigidity as the stock C6 Z06.
could you do a chop of this car? I Want to see it from more than one angle.

Which is why I suggested basing it off the convertible... no chassis stiffening required. I'm sure someone will come up with a hardtop conversion for the convertible at some point. Modifying that into a targa top shouldn't be too much of a stretch.

Thats interesting..... You could have a full vert or drop on your hard top and then pull out the taga and have the best of all the worlds... BUT if I had a vert I dont think I would even bother with a Targa.....
Chevycobb 10-13-2007, 05:05 PM I just dont like the way a targa looks on the 5th gen. it makes it look weird becauseit just leaves you with this awning type look over the back seat that doesn't fit the car well at all. If the camaro was a two seater, like a vette, it would be more fitting. If they offer it thats cool, but i'll stick with the hard top

Oh I agree 100%. I also think t-tops would look stupid on this Camaro. About the only thing I might consider is a tonneau cover that hides the back seats on the convertible. (With molded fins behind the front seatbacks.)
Fbodfather 10-16-2007, 10:35 PM There will be no Targa -- for a very simple reason:
You would have to be about 7 feet in height and have very strong muscles to put it on and take it off!
The Corvette is lower to the ground and quite a bit narrower -- the sheer mass of a targa top for a Camaro would be 'unwieldy' at best.
Example: (and some of you witnessed this....) I had a Pre-production C6 at Atlanta Gathering a few years ago -- the roof panel was off.....a storm was brewing -- and I went to reinstall the roof panel. It was extremely hot from sitting in the sun -- and as I was talking to someone, the panel 'got away from me' -- a combination of weight -- the hot surface (burning!) and wind (which was getting quite gusty) -- and sure 'nuff -- the alignment post hit the edge of the windshield molding -- and we watched in horror as the windshield cracked the whole way across ---------
It wasn't one of my finer hours...........
SSRich 10-17-2007, 03:47 AM Fbod father i believe i can get stretched and start working out we need something instead of a coupe and a conv. and not a hardtop conv. i couldnt afford 10k for it maybe is T-tops still a option now since its going to have a B pillar.

Hmm the weights would he fairly high. I know this is a stretch and pretty much beating a dead horse but lets say the Targa could be done but it would require two ppl to take it off or a ceiling lift, similar to the Miata or Z3 hardtops. we would leave the HARD top at home and go cruising etc. While we are out if we decide we want to secure the car or cover it if it starts raining, a smaller collapsible rigid frame but fabric cover top could be pulled out of the trunk. This would be something that weighs alot less that the HARD top and would be used in those extreme situations. Another example would be the Jeep Wrangler that has a completely removable hardtop and that weights a hell of alot more than the camaro center section. The simple yet effective rolled up "rag" top is brought along for those "just incase" moments but is rarely used.
This would of course NOT be a factory option and I never ment it to sound like that. I know we will just be getting a hard top and vert from GM I was just wondering what the aftermarket could cook up.
And Scott im sure I can speak for the rest of us in saying we have ALL had hours just as fine as yours ;)
