My clutch now feels exactly like a cable-style clutch with no freeplay, as if the clutch cannot fully engage because the cable is too tight, and the fork is keeping the clutch from fully engaging. But of course it is self-adjusting hydraulic.
Last Wed at the track I thought either my clutch was slipping a bit in 1st, or there was smooth tirespin. I had not driven it since then. Today I drove it and noticed my clutch engagement point is within 1/8 inch or less of the pedal's 'untouched' position. I can pull the pedal up another inch or so, but from where it rests, I barely move it and the clutch releases. It used to be lower, and more progressive-feeling. Also, the clutch is engaging softer, enough that does not chirp 2nd like it used to. Again, like it is not applying full pressure.
It's a Centerforce DF with about 4000 street miles and 21 dragstrip runs, on street tires. Broke in for a few hundred miles of city driving before racing or dyno. So I hope it's not shot YET....I did smell it a little bit on my very first few launches when I was getting the feel for it.
What would cause a hydraulic clutch to feel & act like a too-tight-adjusted cable clutch?
Additional info: After my last drag run, I missed 4th and there was a major shudder in the car. I didn't mis-shift, but maybe clutched too fast. No grinding, but no engagement either. ON hard accelerations, the car would clunk like something hitting the underbody after that, maybe a loose LCA or something. Perhaps this is unrelated, but info never hurts.....
