It doesn't look like anything special in those spy shots, but if 525hp is true, then that's definitely nice. Of course with all of the rumors flying around part of me was almost expecting or hoping for a detuned LS9 with 600+ but hey... I suppose I could deal with 'only' 525 as long as the price was right.

I think just the standard 08 CTS is gorgeous , I can only imaging how sick the V is gonna be Its nice to hear they've focused alot on eliminating all the issues with the rear end . The prior gens rear was a bit of an embarassment in a $50K sports sedan .

I'm guessing this will be the 'de-tuned' version of the LS9

...However, while the Corvette SS motor will be hand built at the Performance Build Center in Wixom, MI, the Cadillac's LSA motor will be built in a conventional motor plant...

..Internally, GM is referring to the car as "GMX322 V S/C."...
322(cid)=5.3L engine. This could be a mass produced supercharged 5.3L engine. While I think many of us would prefer a 6L or a 6.2L supercharged engine coming from the GM (espicially for a Camaro) having the smaller displacement with DOD may yield superior fuel economy for CAFE reasons. Not to mention 525hp is still pretty wicked. How greedy can we seriously be? The GT500 has.... 500. The BMW M5? 500. This sounds good to me.

This may also mean the 'detuned LS9' is this engine and shares nothing with the LS9 itself. I would NOT expect GM to produce 3 new supercharged v8's - so this looks like it might be the top engine for the new Camaro too...

Though my question for the pros is - what parts will GM reuse between a 5.3L SC and 6.2L SC? In a few years it might make it really easy to swap an intake and a set of pulleys and run a full GM supercharged setup on a regular LS2 Camaro.

322 is the platform code; has nothing to do with the engine. That engine will not be a 5.3L

+1

It would be a nice powerplant for a sweet little GM ponycar coming a year later.

I would assume if its not a 5.3L that its either based on the LS3 or L67, depending on which one gets better mpg/emissions so they can use it in the trucks without getting too hammered by CAFE (and we heard the new Escalade will get a supercharged engine as well a while back). It would certainly out-perform the 8100 series for power and fuel economy.

Again I cant see GM making more than two supercharged v8s. Though they might be. Anyone from the winky club able to shed some more light on this?

Also isnt the new CTS supposed to get the V6 turbo-diesel as well at some point? If it can have a NA v8 and a SC v8 that gives it 4 engine options!

3.5L turbo diesel (250hp)
3.6L v6 (300hp)
LS3/Ultrastar (~400hp)
LSA (525hp)

Which would also beg the question of where the cars came in price wise for different engines...

paging winky club...

Believe it If I have my info straight LS8=6.2 supercharged as well and resting int he top model Camaro . And if I had to take a wild guess , the G8 GXP as well .

I have also heard of a non-intercooled lower output supercharged 6.2 , it was quite some time ago . So that may or may not be factual .

Guess the lsa will be the motor in the top camaro, now will we get the ls3(430) for the base. Or will we get the g8 base v8 (360hp) and the ls3.

I've also "heard" the G8 GT w/base v8 will start at 32k. I hope this is not true.
