I just installed a Hooker catback onto my 2000 Camaro. For some reason now, after you drive the car for awhile (as soon as its warmed up) I will hear a nasty rattle coming from the rear, it can me heard from both outside and inside of the car. If the car is warmed up enough, you can tap the tail pipe with the palm of your hand in any direction and you can hear that rattle sound. It's driving me crazy because it only does it when its really warmed up. While driving it does it in the lower RPM's or when coasting to a stop, it will also make the sounds while revving the motor from a stand still. If your blasting through the gears, it sounds great, until you let off and it starts to idle down. I finally gave up and took it to 2 shops and they looked under and could not find anything touching or rubbing a shield, the cats seem fine. If anyone has had similar issues with this catback or any other, I would like to know what you did to resolve the issue.
Thanks

do you have the tailpipes clamped on or welded?
i had a similar rattle when i installed the hooker catback on my 99 and i tried 2 things.
first, i took some gasket paper, cut it up in to appropriate sized squares, and put it on all the places of the hangers where metal touched metal, and tightened it all down real well.
What i think actually fixed it though was i simply tightened down all clamps really well. It worked for a while and came back again. I then had it welded in place and the rattle is gone for good.

The tailpipes are welded on.

is it welded over the axle as well?
mess with your hangers, and check clearance by the heat shields.

it's the two hangers under the rear. i had to push some poly bushings in there and secure it with a new bracket

Yes it's welded over the axle, and I think that may be the issue.

When I first installed mine, the passenger side tailpipe was rattling on a part of the car. A metal joint. I wish I could be more descriptive. :D

Was the catback new or used? I used to have a hooker catback on my 97 3.8 and after a while the inside of the muffler started to rust. The hooker design has baffles in the muffler that eventually can rust loose. One of these plates had rusted off inside of my muffler and once the car warmed up it would start to rattle. I was never able to track it down until I removed the muffler and shook it and heard the muffler guts rattling around.

After all this trouble if you still havent figured it out i would take it to a local exhaust shop for them to look at it and see what they think, most local shops arent a huge ass about helping out and not charging you a arm in a leg for a simple fix.
