anyone use heat resistor wrap over plug wires?

I have to replace a couple taylor 8mm because i burned them up on my headers. My question is how to put the wrap over the wires..The wrap is in a tube formation a little wider than the wires themselves..any suggestions? i dont believe either end of the wires come off either.

Sounds like you are speaking of heat shrink tubing. And you cant really slip that over the plug boots as you have figured out. Plus from experience I have not found any that can stand up to the heat for long. It is not the best looking stuff but I picked up some high temp tape for my temperature sensor wire that I kept cooking. I think I ordered from summit. It has done the trick for me.

Cut to length, slice down middle. wrap around wire, it should fold over.Use zip ties to wrap tightly.Cut off excess from ties.

Use the woven fiberglass "Fire Sleeves" that Taylor sells. They are a large enough diameter to allow the plug end of the wire to pass through it. You don't want anything that fits tight against the wire.... it won't help much. You need something that reflects the heat, and provides an air gap between the reflective surface and the wire insulation. Shrink wrap would be useless.
