SWAMP WATER 09-10-2007, 01:04 PM Whats up everybody.Up until now,I could never afford a car that cost more than $500.00 dollars.I have been a camaro fan all my life.My uncles, and casins had camaros.I couldnt ever afford one,so riding in one was as close as I could ever get, until now.One of my aunts got an Acura RL.It has a Navigational System in it.Those things come in handy.Just wanted to know one thing. If the 5th gen Camaro,Z28,or any of them will be equiped with that?
SWAMP WATER 09-10-2007, 02:27 PM computers acting up,anybody know if it5 going to be in the new camaro?
JasonD 09-10-2007, 02:48 PM Merged your two threads together.
Details like this haven't been rel;eased yet, but the popular consensus is that it will have an optional nav eventually.
FS3800 09-10-2007, 03:40 PM at a minimum it will have Onstar Turn-by-Turn
christianjax 09-11-2007, 12:14 PM My Dodge Daytona has Navigation. I LOVE it. I really hope the new Camaro comes with it too.
poSSum 09-11-2007, 04:05 PM While an integrated NAV system is nice to have, (our TB/SS has it), IMO the price point for factory nav is too high, and the functionality (programming while moving) is too restricted. I tend to use our portable Magellan Nav most of the time ... even in the TB/SS.
I would really like to see the option of a large screen integrated into the "entertainment system" with the ability to connect to portable devices via bluetooth, USB, mini RCA, etc. allowing for NAV, music, DVD's, phone, internet and stuff we haven't even dreamed of yet.
detroitboy 09-11-2007, 08:35 PM I don't need no stinkin' Nav system on Woodward........
hyperv6 09-11-2007, 08:48 PM I expect it will be an option as to keep the cost down and still offer it to the directionally challanged.
As for myself I don't need it as most of the time I know were I am going anyway or check on the computer at home before I leave on a trip. So in my case I just would never use it. I also have onstar in my cars but let it go as I never used it either.
I can only think of serveral times I could have used it and where I was it may have not provided the info I needed. In the outer areas of W VA. Google earth does not even have pictures of where I was and you can be 1.5 hours away from the closest Mc Donalds.
I tried to get directions to Richard Childress Racing and Onstar was really no help. Go figure they could not get me to the show were Goodwrench racing was.
There were several other times I ask about some simple places and they were not of much help. I just chalked it up to bad luck.
For me I would rather see a 40 Gig hard drive in the dash like Caddy has and store all my music on it. I would get much more use out of it.
christianjax 09-12-2007, 01:17 PM knowing where you are going is not why I like my Navigation. I like the map tracking my progress, I like the fact that it counts down the miles to my destination (great on road trips) It also counts down the minutes.
SWAMP WATER 09-12-2007, 02:54 PM you already can use bluetooth, dvd, nav, dvd, phone, in the current navigation system. my dad has it in his vette and my grandma has it in her sts. they both do everything you described there. the good thing about the factory, even though it may be pricey, is that it is great and it has the warranty to back it up.way better than any magelin or tom tom
I agree, plus alot of people have forgotten to take the portable device out of there car. When they come back there window is busted, and the device is gone.I would much rather have a factory version, without all the hasle.

Great point.Just because you have one dont mean you dont know where your going.
hyperv6 09-12-2007, 11:57 PM I must just be old school as the green sign tells me Cleveland is only 45 miles away and at 60 MPH it is a mile a minute and if I go a little faster it is a little less works for me.
I just think of so many other things that I would use or like more than somthing to count the miles down.
The only Nav I have seen that made any good sense to me was the one in the GP with heads up as it gave directions in the HUD unit in the line of vision.
christianjax 09-13-2007, 01:28 PM It is like a cellphone. Sure our parents and grandparents survived just fine without them. But now that we have and use them, try to exist without it. It is just another piece of technology that is great to have and very usefull. And a fun toy. I just wish I could upload different voices to it. Have one with an English accent, or an Ebonics one would be fun. "Yo beotch, you just be missin yo turn. Know what I'm saying?" I'd get lost on purpose just to hear that stuff.:D
detroitboy 09-14-2007, 12:48 AM I'm gonna get every option they have anyhow so theres another one for the list.....ya can't call it "loaded" if its missing an option!
2010SSVERT 09-14-2007, 12:57 AM Where I like th Nav best is when traffic is bad. You just go the way that looks like it will work and the Nav will figure it out.
It also has produced a couple of "I didn't know that treet went thru there".
The only problem with counting down the miles and time is pushing your speed to beat a certain time.
hyperv6 09-14-2007, 07:14 AM i was the same way but once you use a nav system, its one of the best things invented. and by the way if you need to use it to tell you how to go to an place you go quite a bit, then you probably shouldnt be driving.
I have used them and find it more a toy than anything else. I Drove all over Sothern Cal this spring and only got lost once for 5 minutes as I figured out of to get back on to the freeway by reading signs.
I seldom use the miles to empty on my DIC now as I just have to look at the gauge to know what I have.
I am sure some really need and want a NAV but for me make it an option as I have other things I would rather see in the car like a standard or optional Heads Up. I want the new generation with color like the Vette.
Or I would rather see more or better radio options. MP3 plug in or a indash hard drive to down load music into.
It won't be long till we have the internet indash in many cars.

You think the new Camaro will have a indash hard drive??
EllwynX 09-14-2007, 08:07 PM see for me the mp3 thing doesnt apply and i find that kind of a pointless thing to have. i never got into the ipods or mp3 or any of that stuff. i burn cds.
CD's still can't hold the amount of music that an MP3 player can. Even if you burn MP3's onto the CD. It's much more convenient to carry around ONE MP3 player, than a bunch CD's. Not to mention switching the CD's vs hitting a button on the MP3 player.
Also, CD's will in just a few short years be gone from cars just like cassette. MP3's and a hard drive are the best options.
hyperv6 09-14-2007, 10:40 PM You think the new Camaro will have a indash hard drive??
It may not at the start but I am sure it will have a MP3 player dock like in the HHR.
The 08 CTS now is offereing a 40 GiG indash hard drive that can support nav, MP3 and I believe Video.
Now that it has started in time the hard drive will be most if not all cars in the future. It is like Stablility control. Only a few cars had it to start and by 2012 it will be in most even before it is made manditory.
The fact is CD's are going to go away like the tape player sooner than you think. Cars will have pretty much a indash PC where you can down load info and internet along with music. They now have hard drives that can take the shock and heat of a car and with the improvment of flash memory I expect we may see something in that mode too.
We have not even seen the start of the electronic's in the car yet. There is so much they can and will do in the next ten years. It is not long before we will see much more than the one 12 Volt battery system in cars as they are nearly out grown it already.
I just joined the MP-3 crowd and really now understand the benifits. Record companys now just want to sell you a down load as it saves Production, Materials, Storage, Shipping, Middle men, Retailers, ETC. The bottom line is it has a quality sound and much more profit. I suspect they will also control it more with programs that only they can unlock [or till a hacker figures it out].
FirebatLT1 09-15-2007, 10:49 AM I'd rather not see it. Its just extra crap I'd have to take out and sell on ebay. They are nice, I've used GPS navigation with a laptop in some major cities(vegas, chicago) for business. Anyways, if its an option then I'm for it, if its standard I'm against it.
