This has actually been in discussion here since April. Here's the thread where our FBodfather lays out the future:

If in "This year", you mean the 2007 calender year, then you're correct.

The 2009 model year begins in less than 4 months on January 1st.

A 6 month hiatus isn't much. Look for it next spring.

Ahaha...it will probably retain the SS badge, like the HHR.
Anyone know of any pics or if the Turbo Balt got any track time at the Ring?

I like the way the old SS coupe looks. I wonder if they'll make some changes to the exterior?

power #'s ?

The HHR SS is 260 horses with the 5 speed manual and 235 with the 4 speed auto. I'd expect Cobalt SS will be the same.

From all I can tell , no exterior changes other than a mesh grill to replace the slats and new 10 spoke wheels <---if u look at the wheel , it looks like it was made from the same tooling as the old 18" , just remachined as a spit 5 spoke .

These are apparently the mules . Got the pic off GMinside news . I pointed arrows at why I think their legit . Most test cars Ive seen have that little white pipe coming out the front of the car .

Words cannot express how much more I like the new 10-spoke than the old five-spoke hoops.

from this picture, I like the old dark grey wide 5 spoke better. We'll see when they hit the streets though.

Do these have a lip spoiler that the old ones didn't?

Not me, man - I hate those five-spoke wheels. It's almost like someone at GM held a contest to determine who could design the bulkiest-looking wheel possible.

Those Vette-like 10-spoke wheels look great, though.

Which brings up a question: Is changing the model year of a car, while changing nothing physical about the car, a marketing gimmick, formality, what?

I dont know, but there are plenty of changes for the model year listed there. And I would expect "this year" to mean the 2008 model year.
