Camm95Z28 09-05-2007, 01:21 AM Hello all, what does this mean. I waxed my car yesterday and while I was wiping off the wax, I noticed I have what looks like black paint ( my color Z) on my towell. I have heard of this happening to people, but this is a first for me. I have only used Megs Gold Class, no polishes and so forth. What do I do, lay off waxing for a while or am I doing soemthing wrong in the process?

What year is your car? From your user name it appears to be a 95, they were clear coated from the factory, either the clear coat is gone (you would have seen this happening) or the car was repainted without using clear coat. How long have you owned the car?

Camm95Z28 09-05-2007, 03:13 PM I have owned this 95 Z since May 98. I did a carfax upon buying it and it was bought and titled basically all it's life from Sarasota Fla.
It reported zero accidents, but a firned of mine who was a bodyman called BS and looked it over and found where it was repainted and seen the orange peel on it,
I don't own a garage, I live it the salt belt of the NE. I did get the clear coat on the hood redone back in Aug. 2001. I wax it 3 times a year or so with Gold Class.
I would like to soemday get a repaint, as the front of the car , the nosecone is faded an dlooks more grey than black. Same with the portions of the top of the doors where the glass meet as that is more grey than black.
My theory is that the 3 years in Florida, the previous owner never waxed it and the sun beat the crap out of it. The car's paint looked great for the firsy year, then went downhill eversince.
Thanks again.

zhevy-1 09-11-2007, 02:21 AM It could also be oxidation. I agree the car could've been painted before
At least once a year you should polish out your paint. From time to time you need to clean the paint up with a paint cleanser (wax) or a good polish
hcvone 09-11-2007, 08:32 AM As said Carfax is almost usless, one of my neighbors cars has been hit 6 times over 3 years, did a Carfax it came up 100% clean, one of my sisters cars, hit twice, the first time 7k damage, the second time 12.5k damage, again Carfax came up clean, my sisters car was fixed by two different shops, and my neighbors car 4 different shops. :(
Interceptor1 09-17-2007, 09:39 PM you wax it 3 times a year? jeez... I wax it once a month. I give all the protection I can to my car here in sunny and rainy FLA.
You either have already gone through the factory clear or your car was repainted or spot repaired with a 1 coat color system without clearcoat.
transamgirl95 09-20-2007, 05:41 PM clear is gone...repaint :)....doesnt mean it was repainted just means the car wasnt taken care of...i wax my BMW once a month ...
FivePoint7z28 09-24-2007, 02:15 PM Isnt there such a thing as waxing your car too much?
Brangeta 11-13-2007, 05:53 PM My car's a '95 and we've had it since 1996. It's been garaged 90% of its life, and the clearcoat on the roof is starting to wear through, so I wouldn't be so quick to jump to conclusions that it was repainted. It's just old and needs the roof resprayed.
Then again... since your car is black, if you're talking about an area of the car that doesn't get much sun on it, and the black paint is coming off, then it isn't just related to age.
mcalus 11-17-2007, 02:39 PM It very well could of been a single stage black, which means no clear coat was put on. Also could be from sun, and other wear and tear from weather. Sounds like you are gonna want to get a new paint job soon. You should be fine as long as there isn't any bare metal coming through.
