The Ford Freestyle is now Taurus X for 2008




Anybody else notice that the Mercury Sable is back too. With Mercury trying to make a new image, I really think it was a bad move bringing back the Sable name. With Ford and the Taurus I understand it, but Sable

 

This is pretty old news. These name changes were announced at NAIAS in Jan along w/ the Taurus name change.

Freestyle never hit me as a car name, so I forgot about it, lol.

The Sable, should have been kept quiet.

It never hit anyone as a car, either. The joke was that it should have been called Stylefree instead of Freestyle because of its milktoast design.

 

Good move renaming the 500 to Taurus.

I don't like the Taurus X. It reminds me of the 80's when Chrysler had 3 completely different models called LeBaron.

Sable? Mercury? Who cares?

I don't see what's wrong with "Taurus X" -- its better than "Taurus Wagon" (which is really what it is).

 

I was cool with the Montego name. At least it had some history behind it, and was actually not a bad looking car. Actually stood out a bit. Unlike the Five Hundred.

I think renaming the crossovers Taurus and Sable as well was a little too much, however.

 

Taurus was a good move, Sable wasn't. Montego was a much better name, much more classy.

 

Fixed. Milktoast is a food. Milquetoast is a personality trait.

 

I knew the Taurus was coming, actually saw one back in the auto show season. But I didn't know that the Freestyle was going to be renamed Taurus X, somehow I missed that part of the news, if it was renamed back at the same time. Sable was a surprise too.
