It seems like its been a very long time since we have gotten even the slightest nugget of relevant information in regards to the camaro release.
Knowing that the car is coming in Q1 09, when should we be expecting to hear more about the car?
I mean, will it be a black hole of nothingness until this time next year? Then all of a sudden a few months before release it will be a barage?
I for one am starting to get ancy for a new car, but maybe if GM could start spreading some nuggets to keep us dangling... man that would be nice!
I guess I am just looking for some comparitave info to previous launches. I really dont know what to expect because I have never really been "anticipating" a yet to be released vehicle like this before....

Actually, we talk about the issue of telling you more -- constantly!
Some of you have heard me say (after you ask me a pointed question that I cannot answer.....) -- "....Have you ever played poker? If you have, did you show your hand before it was time to?......." -- and so you see, we've been very close mouthed about where we are with the new Camaro....because you see, we do not want Chrysler or Ford or Toyota or any other competitor to know much about this car........this business has gotten to be one of the most competitive businesses the world has ever known......and all one needs to do is look at the financial statements of the domestics to see that this is, indeed, serious.
Methinks you will shortly hear about stuff -- perhaps weekly......some of it tidbits -- some of it not........
........we KNOW you want to know as much as possible.........and we're thrilled that you do -- because it tells us that passions run high for this great car.
Patience, my friends -- patience. (and yes, I know most of you have been patient for many years!)

i totally agree scott, but i was at Cars at Carlisle close to 2 months ago when the 'Vert Concept was there. We heard the car, and it sounded AMAZING btw. Anyhow, John Fitzpatrick was there "answering" questions, AKA saying "We can't tell you that" over and over again..and some of things he said he couldn't answer were just flat out ridiculous! I asked if the production car would be available in this Orange and he said "We can't answer that." I mean COME ON! It's not like an Orange car has NEVER been made before! OH MY GOD FORD CAN'T KNOW WE'RE MAKING AN ORANGE CAMARO OR IT WILL DESTROY THE WHOLE PROJECT! Come on guys...I can understand not revealing things about the powertrain and everything but not even answering a color question? That's just crazy...
I agree, let little things out that won't matter much, geez! Keep the interest up!
67 LS-1 & T-56 08-27-2007, 02:13 AM C'mon guys, don't make me be the first person to point out that Scott just gave us a tidbit by saying that we will be seeing information weekly......so what around here happens weekly?
*Ahem* PODCAST! *Ahem*
I think it's about time to start tuning....err... Windows Media Playering in religiously.
:cz28:
krazzycowgirl 08-27-2007, 04:02 AM The Best thing I can say knowing Scott is to sit back relax & enjoy the ride they will give us more information & Scott will be one of the first ones that does, when it is allowed out of the Toy box.
See ya in Oct Scott.
ringram 08-27-2007, 07:21 AM I think with the Challenger arriving within 6 months Chev is going to release some more info, just enough to stop the guys who might be treading the line from rushing over and jumping in a new 392 cube dodge etc. The Camaro will be at least 1 year behind the dodge so they are going to have to have some info around.
Nobody performance minded wants a Ford. But a 392 or 426 dodge is going to give GM some a serious challenge.
I want the Camaro, but unless I know GM is going to have a good performance offering a high performance Challenger may well sway me.
JasonD 08-27-2007, 07:40 AM Anyhow, John Fitzpatrick was there "answering" questions, AKA saying "We can't tell you that" over and over again..and some of things he said he couldn't answer were just flat out ridiculous! Fitzpatrick is not a product manager, he is a marketing manager. He doesn't always know those answers.
More importantly, the answer may not be determined at that time. Things can change completely right up to production time, and saying "Yes, there will be an orange one." and then if there is a and unforseen production problem, supply problem, pigment problem, etc. and orange has to be canceled...well...by then there will be a lot of people expecting orange that will be here griping. "That's BS! John Fitzpatrick told me that there would be orange! And now they are not making orange? I was looking forward to orange but now I am not going to buy one because of this, typical GM, blah, blah, blah..."
And yes, that would happen and yes, it CAN hurt the whole project. This is why just about any other detail like engine specs, etc. are also not revealed.
It is called "Not counting the chickens until the eggs have hatched."
Buck-buck bu-KUUCK!!
;)

Thanks for the quick reply scott, I know you guys are workin hard, and keep up the good work! Im just getting ancy! :) along with lots of others I am sure.
I cant wait to start hearing more! I am looking forward to getting to order my first car... just dont make it too long of a wait
willisit 08-27-2007, 10:12 AM Hi guys - first post here!
If it helps, I'm from the UK and probably have to wait a year longer than you guys to get in to a Camaro (hopefully RHD too).
But just to re-enforce what fbodfather is saying, yes, we do want info and if the product is right (aka the concept) then I'll wait patiently. :D
Primus 08-27-2007, 10:23 AM Being tight-lipped certainly can be a double edged sword. Absolutely you want to keep the competitors on their toes but how do you do that without alienating the potential buyers? I'm sure the trickle of info will start soon with small details and eventually a deluge.
guionM 08-27-2007, 11:38 AM Guys..... please..... put a lid on it, and reign in the dogs.
Camaro will be out in just 16 months!!!
Is finding out what shade of orange paint will be offered going to make the car come out quicker or enable you to buy it sooner??
I get a feeling people are asking questions just to ask questions, and things are getting pretty silly. If you disagree, then wait till real information comes out, then come back and look at some of the questions in these posts.
Reality check here. No one cares what type of threads are going to be used to stitch the seats together, or which brand of lightbulb is going into the tail lights or the length of the speedometer needles, is the gas cap going to turn right or left, what type of grain pattern is going to be used on the interior plastic, how old will the cows be that are contributing the leather for the seats, or the chemical compounds of the nylon in the carpet threads.
The information that DOES matter, and that people actually ARE intrested in will come out when the time is right, and not before.
In case you haven't noticed, we're knee deep in a muscle car war. Chrysler has Dodge Challenger coming out in less than 6 months that's not exactly looking to play 2nd fiddle in horsepower and acceleration. Ford's Team Mustang is packing in more horsepower on the next gen Mustang as we speak. Hyundai is even suiting up to jump into the V8-rear drive-pony car market.
Even discounting the muscle car race, each car is coming with new cool innovations that won't be revealed till the last minute.
What if Chrysler revealed it's new "Stow-and-Go" minivan feature prematurely? What if Ford tipped it's hand with the Mustang's adjustable guage lighting colors?
The point is, anything that matters to anybody is exactly the same stuff that the competition would love to know about in advance so either they can either match the feature or "one-up" it.
By the way..... as far as paint colors, decisions on that come along at almost the very end of a program.... so no, even if John Fitzpatrick knew any more about the next Camaro then say Jason D or any of the other regulars here (which he does not), he most certainly could not answer any color availability questions because that won't be set in stone for nearly another year.

Anyone who's alienated (especially to the point of not buying the car) because they are not getting information more than a year before launch is an idiot. Scott's right - this business is *very* competitive - and I agree with everyone who wants more information - I'd love to see different colors, the production car, the production interior - everything! But I also understand the reality of the situation for GM and if by keeping me in the dark until the week before the car rolls off the line, they are also keeping their competition in the dark - fine - I will sit here, in the dark, humming quietly. :)

Hey Scott, I wanted to share a story with you that shows just how passionate people are for this car. My stepdaughter (26) drives a truck - a big ram truck - and can "never see herself driving a car". My stepson (27) is a Ford fan and loves working on cars - he wants a '92 Mustang to rebuild. Both were in town this weekend and when he got to my car cabinet and saw a 1:18 scale Camaro, he stopped. He started with one question about the new Camaro and never stopped asking. After seeing the concept, he now wants to pursue his dream project car rather than the Mustang - his dream project car is a '69 Camaro! He absolutely craves the new Camaro (which he'd never really seen before). When I showed him pictures from the production roll-out and heritage center tour, he asked "When can we go visit?". He was positively stoked!! My stepdaughter walks in while I'm showing him pictures, looks over our shoulders, points to the convertible and says, "I'm getting one of those." I'd say this car is a winner in the passion department :)
toneloc12345 08-27-2007, 12:15 PM Yeah seriously guys, they probably just don't want to tell you that they are going to be putting the 4l60e in the camaro until they can up production on the A6's...

Idiot or not, I know that there are people out there that were interested in the new Camaro but with little information available they have decided to go with something else for the time being.
I think it's funny how quick people are to say STFU when they are basically acting the same way but in the other direction.
ChrisL 08-27-2007, 06:20 PM I'll say this to put it in perspecitve. We know more about the Camaro 16 months prior to launch than the Challenger folks knew about Challenger, and the Mustang folks knew about Mustang.

Wow -- you amaze me at times!
You are correct.
By the way -- we HAVE selected colors -- BUT...........and this is important so pay attention: it isn't like we decide to paint one orange -- call up PPG or BASF or DuPont and say -- '....mix 'er up, fellas!......' -- paint DOES have to go thru validation as well............
............soooooooooo............there are only so many formulas that have been validated.
(....after all -- most customers would be very upset if the paint faded in a couple of years...........)
Noth'nLikeaSmBlock 08-27-2007, 10:52 PM So how likely is the black with silver stripes combination? :)
This little combo on the die-cast model is really growing on me!
(Not that I expect a response)

Eh....I'd suggest that is rather speculative and unsupportable.
Helps qualm the masses here though. :)
Z/28lover 08-28-2007, 08:25 AM is the gas cap going to turn right or left?
That bitch better turn left to get off.
except on the STFU edition, then it can turn right, and when people say
"Hey, that is backwards."
you look 'em straight in the eye and say
"STFU"

I'll stick by my statement. :)

montecarlofan 08-29-2007, 07:14 PM i can't believe my comment about the colors got so much attention lol. i was actually just using that as an example. i was trying to say that things that won't make or break the project should, if not answered, at least strongly hinted at. say "It's a strong possibility." or something...and for those that say we know more 16 months prior to release compared to the stang and dodge guys, what exactly DO we know FOR SURE? i didn't follow those cars while they were in concept stage so i can't say for sure, but what do we know FOR SURE right now, today, August 29th, 2007? that is comes out in 1/4 2009? YAY! what else...uhhh...its going to have a V8? YAY!!! anyone who knows cars could tell you this camaro would have a V8. i'm not trying to start fights or be sarcastic but i'd just like to know what we know FOR SURE.
PS: i've been reading these boards since May but just recently registered so don't give me any newb/noob replies.
My Red 93Z-28 08-29-2007, 07:53 PM Well in a video posted somewhere on here by MarcR94v6 I think it has the bumblebee on it and Scott answering questions saying that 20" wheels would be a pretty good guess and he mentions something about multiple v8's and maybe v6's, I'll search for the video.

Speculative... yup. Unsupportable? Certainly not worth the effort.
I would imagine the stuff you dealt with at your last duty station.... it was a little more important to put the effort into validating data than a casual conversation on a car board.
