Exclamation You GOTTA see this!! (Hayabusa powered Smart)

They took an engine out of a Suzuki Hayabusa and put it into a Smart.

The results? To say the least, I'm simply floored.... that's not easy.

Just goes to show you, even if CAFE someday in the distant future goes up to 35 or 40 mpg, you're STILL going to have hot rodders.

Surprisingly (to me anyway) I guess it's been done before. Article from 2005: http://thekneeslider.com/archives/20...ery-smart-car/

Awesome project, the car looks like loads of fun.

I would like to know some statistics, such as 1/4 mi run.

Having said that, the video is utter sh*t with the music they chose. I have no idea why many bikers are retarted, but when making videos they choose heavy metal songs that just sound like utter sh*t.

There's another video of one of these Smarts beating a Ferrari F430 in a 400m race. The Smart runs a 13.29, the Ferrari a 13.40.

And the music was pretty good. I like Devildriver.

That looks fun as hell, I was wondering if anyone was gonna do that. Ive heard of 1300cc 'busa motors being dropped in small coupes before, never seen it in a Smart car tho.

It's like putting a Briggs & Straton on a roller skate. Not sure how safe I would feel with the engine riding shotgun with me though...

Looks like I'll try and avoid hitting large concrete barriers at 70mph then .

I know a shop did basically the same thing with an old style Mini. Turbo Hyabusa engine in back, RWD, looked pretty stock too. Can't find any pics of it, but it looked sweet.

Unless you're driving an 18 wheeler, your chances of surviving a contest with a concrete barrier at 70 mph isn't going to be all that encouraging, regardless as to what you're driving and how great your vehicle looks afterwards. Your internal organs can actually rip apart (not to mention snapping your neck like a dry twig) even if you suffer no outward injuries outside of those caused by restraints. Seen the results of it once some years ago myself.

To get a feel for what it's like going from 70 to zero mph instantly, one might jump (or even drive) off a 10-12 story building and hit the concrete sidewalk nose first.

i think what he was trying to say is that if fuel economy regulations force the market to only have super-minis available for purchase, there will still be people hotrodding them, ie.. with hayabusa motors..

also. i'm surprised your bike struggles to get 40mpg.. is it modded much? what's it's EPA rating?

A lot of guys up here put GXR1000 motors into their Smarts. With fatter tire you get 0-60 in under 5 secs and a 1/4 mile in the very low 13s.
