Anyone tried the wheel paint from dupli-color?

Noticed the dupli-color paint can the other day while in Autozone. They say there for painting your rims? Noticed it comes in black. Always wanted black rims for my Formula. The stock rims look ok, but would look better black. Plus it would be cheaper then buying new rims/tires. Guess it would turn out ok if I took my time and sanded the rims first?

Anyone tried this stuff yet? I don't want to get started on this project to have it turn out like crap.
Thanks

Any black will work. Don't waste the extra $ for the "wheel" paint. Prep is where you make the difference. Spend the extra $ there.

I was thinking about using the black engine block paint as it holds up to high temps and has to be pretty resistant to chemicals and chipping. Would that work or would it look like garbage?

When it comes to prep work I was just going to sand it down, lightly, with probably 320 grit paper and make sure it was good and clean with a good electrical parts cleaner that would remove all oil/buildup and not leave a residue. Am I going in the right direction here or is there something else I should be doing instead. Never tried this before.

Thanks,
Jeremy

I sanded mine down, cleaned it with acetone then alcohol and used tack cloth. I used the Cast iron gray engine enamel. I lasted for a couple of years until I got tired of it and stripped off all the paint and went for the 35th anv wheel look. I didn't even clear coat over it, but it wouldnt hurt.

I tried the Duplicolor wheel "High Performance Coating" aluminum paint on the wheels of a car I was selling. The finish didn't look bad, but seemed a bit rough, not glossy. Anyway it made the car look better.

Then I tried the same aluminum wheel paint, but adding on top the Duplicolor high performance coating clear for the hubcaps of my wife's car. It was difficult to get an even finish, because if I added one extra pass of clear, the area would look darker than the rest. The finish was also a little rough, not that glossy and not very durable, it later stained with cleaning solutions.

I am trying to find a brand of aluminum color paint that doesn't look too shiny and is durable so I can touch up my salad shooters...

Get some engine enamel. I like how the Duplicolor with ceramic in it goes on.

Ditto...I used satin black, with high heat clear. It came out very good on my C5 wagon wheels. There are two pixs in my website on the last page.

Prep?

My only question before I get to painting. What steps should I follow for prep before the paint begins to fly?

If you original paint is good, rough it up and clean it.
