Question QUICK How Much is this worth? Anyone Need Parts?

I met a guy recently that has a 1994 Camaro V6 3.4L with a Manual Transmission. It is stock teal green.

From what I can tell when I went over it today, the body seems to be in perfect condition. However, he told me that the engine was blown.

The whole reason I am looking at the car is because I have a 1995 Camaro V6 3.4L with an Automatic Transmission as my daily driver. I am extremely interested in learning how to sand/paint cars, but do not want to do so on my own car for fear of messing it up/having it out of commission. So, my thoughts are that I buy this car, sell any parts I don't need and then learn to modify/paint my car using this car.

Alternatively, if the body turns out well, it could eventually become a project car that I could have someone help me drop a v8 into.

When I looked at the car it said $850 on the windshield (No Title, As Is) when I called him on the phone I offered im $250 and I will tow it. He responded an offer of $450. I declined.

The tire has stock wheels (which I know I Personally ordered a spare on ebay for like $80) and bodywise seems in good condition.

Questions:

1. How much do you think this car is worth (i.e. how much cash should I offer him/most I be willing to pay if I want this car)
2. Does anyone need any parts, obviously I'd be able to sell them extremely cheap.

Did you ask why no title? How was the interior. $850 doesn't sound bad if the car is in really good condition cause all you have to do is the swap and you're good to go. No title concerns me though.

Question

The situation he explained to me was that someone sold the car to a woman. The woman over heated the car and took it to his repair shop. The woman abandoned the car (and never paid the person she "bought it" from). The person who "sold" it to the woman asked for it. He said he'll turn it over when someone pays the bill on it. The guy opted to just abandon it. It has been sitting there for AT LEAST 6 months, maybe more.

So, basically I have to decide:
a. Do I want to restore this camaro (or at least practice on it so that I can later on restore the one I drive)
b. How much am I willing to spend on the camaro.
c. If I change my mind later, will I be able to make my money back parting out the car.

The interior wasn't great, it'd be managable (if I cared about the interior), needs a little cleaning and maybe some seat covers.

If it has been abandoned then the mechanic needs to do the paperwork and get it titled to him so he can sell it and it also protects you so if the owner with the title comes back around you aren't screwed out of a car. Selling the transmission and body as a roller would net you back your $450 or less so no problem there. If you do practice painting it and what not depending on how good a job you do could help or hurt how much you get out of it as a roller.

The questions you asked yourself are good ones so hopefully you can answer them and see what it's worth to you, not the guy trying to sell it.

I would not buy it. If it came back to YOU, you would have to fork over the car to whoever has the title in there name. Plus, all you could do would be practice painting it or race it in enduro class or something. I am sure their are other old v6's to be had cheap.

the title needs to be dealt with first. If you ever decide to drive it, how do you plan on registering it?

Due to the title issue, my thoughts are that if I buy this car it will be a parts car, never to be driven. I can use it to practice sanding/painting the car (considering its identical to my actual car it would be an apples-to-apples practice) additionally I imagine that I would part out any parts I didn't need (i.e. the wheels, tailpipes, interior, mechanical components). Or alternatively, down the road I could part the whole thing out. (I've already got some friends asking me about a few parts if I get it).

Due to the title issue, I'm thinking IF I do buy it, I offer the guy $300 AS-IS and I tow it (Though HE gives me a Bill of Sale so I have at least some documentation).

Basically, for $300 I would end up with a car with all good body components (hood, nose, fenders, bumper, door panels, etc. are all in good condition) an uncracked dash [thats better than mine is ], semi-worn seats (still functional though), a allegedly working manual transmission, and various other little things.

So what do you guys think, should I offer the $300?

if you're just going to use it for parts then 450 is a good deal on it I think.

Depending on how your state does it and if the mechanic has done everything he should (in TN that would be filing a lein on it running an ad in a local paper, proper paperwork with the state, ect.) a title may be no problem. If he hasn't you could get stuck.

I get the impression that the mechanic didn't file for the paperwork that it was kind of a verbal agreement with the owner of the car, he wasn't going to pay the bill and he was just going to leave the camaro.

Even though it does have a mint body and HYPOTHETICALLY I would be able to get it for only $300, I think I'm going to decline at this point. Given the title issue I would never be able to drive it and I am not in need of the parts right now (even though they may be useful down the road).

Alternatively, does anyone know how much JUST THE BODY of a 1998 OR NEWER Trans Am would go for? I am EXTREMELY interested in tearing down a car and restoring it and I had thought about doing so with the Camaro, but I think I would rather keep my currently running Camaro as-is so I can keep driving it, but then have a project car (and I have ALWAYS wanted a 98+ Trans Am) on the side that I work on.

Anyone know about how much one would cost me? (I don't need an engine, transmission, wheels, etc. Just the body and I would tow it)
