My friends friend has a 94 Cobra bone stock...Stick...apparently he cant shift worth a c**p...I have a 93 Z28 Camaro LT1...Auto...mods in sig (not much) well he wants me to give him a while to get his shifting down a little better, whats the chances of me beating him? Should I go roll or dig???

Thanks!

Both cars are pretty equal...in my opinion. I think that if you both run from a dig you could get him if he cant shift. If he can, it will be a close one.

Now, since you are an auto and if running from a roll then again it depends on if he can drive. If he gets in the sweet spot in rpms and can shift then he is gonna pull on your auto.

If it were me and I was in my A4 then I would tell him that we gotta run from a dig. The A4 wont miss and it will be tough for him to keep his shifts tight being inexperienced with the car.

These are just educated "guesses" as every race situation is different.

Let us know how it turns out.

Edit,

Im sorry, I had a brain fart and saw 96 Cobra for some reason.
I think you should pull on him.

Still race from a dig as the A4 can fall into the dead zone from the roll.

The thing holding them back is that the computer retards timing if you try to power shift.

Why do the A4's fall in a dead zone??? What causes this and when does it usually happen???

I think the LT1 is around a 1/2 second faster on average. The 94 Cobra's have the 5.0 but the body weighs more then the fox. Some kid I graduated w/ had one w/ a few bolt ons. I raced him in my LT1 (I think all I had at the time was a Flowmaster Muffler & a CAI (A4 273's) ). We went from a 50-60 MPH Punch and I left him like he hit a brick wall. If he's stock you should have any problems.

Just how automatics are depending on what speed/gear your at if the rpm are high in that gear then your in a dead spot..Thats why when manuals race from a roll you'll hear them downshift to bring the rpms down @ that speed. Gears, TC, and a shift kit will help that out

no you downshift to bring the rpms up not down... why would you want to start a race lower in your powerband, doesnt quite make sense
