1996 trans am m6 for sale, $3100 OBO

Just bought an 03 cobra, and want to get a new daily driver thats better on gas and cheaper on insurance as well so my blue 1996 T/A is for sale.

Car has 161K miles, ive had it for about 3 1/2 years. I bought it with 72K miles on it . Drive it 80 miles a day to work and thats it. Never been raced ever or brought to the track. only mods are CAI, and a cutout that has been capped for a long time because i got sick of it. To give you an example of how easy ive driven it, i replaced the tires at around 85K miles, and they are still doing just fine on the car at the current mileage.

It has been by far the most reliable car ive ever owned. I have only had to replace the clutch, brakes, and tires, and occasionally the stupid rear tail light bulbs that go out with these cars. I also had some issues with window buttons but i bought replacement panels and those are now working. Transmission is original and still shifts very well and the engine maintains excellent oil pressure and I still average about 300-320 miles per full gas tank. Use synthetic mobil 1 oil every 3-4K miles. Never had any opti problems yadda yadda. car still has very good power, heat/ac, electrical stuff all works, drives straight, clean carfax etc.

Onto the problems:

of course when I go to sell the car the flip headlight problem known as the 'headlight fix' happens(yesterday). basically when you close the lights, it makes a grinding noise from the left headlight because the plastic gear is stripped. the fix is brents bronze gear. I am ordering that over the weekend and it will be fixed by the time i sell it. i've done it before on my 93 firehawk, and the job is very easy.

on the drivers side door, theres a piece of fiberglass that cracked off because when i bought the car a few years ago and was transferring evertyhing from my other car into that car, i didnt have the emergency brake on all the way and both cars were parked close next to each other on a hill and my other car rolled back and the door that was open clipped the trans ams door. i've heard it can be fixed but since it wasnt a functional requirement i never fixed it.

passenger side rear seat has holes it in from when i put an old battery back there and some corrosive stuff leaked onto it.

stock exhaust rattles and should proabbly be replaced with an aftermarket new exhaust. the stock exhaust is just old.

other then those issues everything else is fine. i've driven this car everywhere, rains, snow, tennesee, boston, and never once has it left me stranded or given me a problem.

I will have pictures and a video of the car posted on sunday once i get back to my house. if you have any special video requests to see how it runs or sounds or things to check for, let me know and ill send it. same thing with pics. other then that i will just post what i would look for if i were buying a car here on sunday.

Any questions let me know. VIN# of car is 2G2FV22P3T2218782

Location? I am VERY interested.

Also pics here or dvboard@gmail.com when you get them please . I'd be especially interested in any parts of the car you might consider "worn" or "bad". I'm not worried about the good stuff .

yea a location would have been nice . its in colts neck, NJ.

I wouldn't mind doing a shipping deal but ive never shipped a car so would have to be helped along with the process!

i'll have pictures and videos on sunday. let me know if you have any special requests. otherwize i'll just put a video of the idle, of it driving by, of me driving inside the car so you can watch the temp/oil pressure and listen for sounds, etc.

i'd consider the tires somewhat worn, they have been on the car for a loooong time. they are def driveable for a while yet. the brakes are still pretty decent. i replaced the clutch around 142K miles so its got alot of life left. I last did plugs/wires a little over 105K. the exhaust i would replace because it rattles when you drive it. the suspension of the car is still decent, it still is pretty tight to drive around and probably wouldnt notice it unless you race. the stock old speakers are not great, ive always wanted to replace them but never got around to it. alternator, water pump, etc are still all stock and not replaced. also the headlight just started grinding but that will be fixed before sale. not sure what else, just ask specific questions and ill get you all the answers you need.

Vin

That's quite a ways away, but if it would make a long drive (back here to southern indiana), i might get with a friend and drive up there to pick it up. Although i might have to wait till a weekend .

Does the car have t-tops?

Looking forward to those pictures. Only things i might be interested in are the spots that would differ from an ideal car. Maybe a video of the headlights, and exhaust. The stuff that might need replaced/fixed.

Although if your fixing the headlights never mind about that video then . I know with 161k miles on it it's going to be worn in a lot of places. So just the vital fix it stuff.

Now just gotta wait on insurance lady to call me back so i can see how much extra it might cost me to have a great weekend cruiser .

yes, car has t-tops. dont worry about the headlight, ill have it fixed before it goes, just wanted to mention it in case someone came to see the car before i fixed it. the car would DEFINATELY make the trip. i put 450+ miles on the car each week, and have been for 2 1/2 years. when i send you pictures ill send you anything i can think of that is either wrong with it(scratches, rear left passenger seat with some holes in it, etc). o yea, look in my original post and im gonna edit in the VIN #.

the cobra has exhaust/tune/pulley and its a BEAST! i should have just jumped right into this platform. after i sell this t/a i will be selling my 93 firehawk as well, but i want to enjoy it until the summer is over.
over winter im porting the blower and adding a lower pulley and going for 500 rwhp.

Carfax

FYI - I just ran a carfax and it came back clean. No accidents, just 3 title transfers, last one on 13 April 2004 with 72,515 miles. Sounds like a good deal. I may have to throw my hat in the ring on this one. Look forward to some pictures.

Sorry guys, after doing alot more thinking... I think I am going to hold onto the car for now. Its always done me right and with the price i'd be looking to spend on another daily driver, i can't be sure it would be as reliable as my car has been to me. I am kinda curious how many miles I can put on the stock engine and tranny without a rebuild. Anyone know the record?

Aww, disappointing that your not gonna sell, but i wish you good luck with the car. It's hard to find a decently priced 6 speed...

sorry! i just couldnt let it go now. ive never been let down with this car. one thing that made me think twice was my brother just bought a $5000 maxima that appeared to be in good shape. had 90K miles. drove fine for a week. now theres eletrical problems, leaks tranny fluid/oil, and it stutters and has a hard time starting and stalls occassionally. i just dont think for the price i could find a better car than my own right now thats goin to be reliable.
