Just as the title says, how do I get the hardline feed separate from the fuel rail? I'm welding -AN fittings to the back of the rails but don't know how to get this sucker out without destroying the rail in the process. any help would be appreciated.

To remove the flexible feed lines from the intake fuel rail you have to use a disconnect tool. 3/8 for the feed and 5/16 for the return. Most any auto parts store has them fairly cheap.

I think he means that he wants to pull the hard lines out of the fuel rail. I'm pretty sure they are just pressed in, but very hard to get out.

I did this on my LT1 not too long ago. The pressure regulator comes right out. The supply tube is swaged in and seals with an O-ring. I cut the tube as short as possible with a hack saw and used a stationary belt sander to cut the end of the rail down far enough to remove the rest of the tube.

I picked up fittings at my local speed shop. The salesman asked if I had someone to do the welding and I said no, but it shouldn't be too hard to find someone. He made a phone call to a friend of his with a fabrication shop a few blocks away who happened to be there on a Saturday. The friend asked if the fuel rails were off the car. The salesman answered that he was holding them in his hands. Anyway, a short drive and $20 got the fittings welded very nicely to the fuel rails. A little mag polish made them look very nice.

thanks, thats exactly what I was looking for. I've got the rails apart and the regulator popped right out. I cut the tube down almost flush then used a file to knock down the end of the rail but it still won't pop out, so far it will just spin in the rail  guess I'll try going down a little further with it.

I'm using -8AN weld fittings to go on the ends of the rails, should work out pretty nicely.

You've got it. Just keep filing until the end of the tube can be removed. I don't recall how much I needed to cut off, maybe 1/8" or a little more. It went pretty fast with a belt sander, it'll take a while with a file.

cool, I'll just take the bench grinder to it then. just don't want to go farther than I need to.

ok I still can't get this damn thing out. I cut the end of the rail down about an 1/8" to try and get the plug out, but it appears there is a groove inside the rail itself that holds it in? I dremeled a slot on one side thinking it would free up by no dice :(

What I ended up doing is after I cut the tube down I drilled out the hole with a bit that was almost the size of the outter lip but not quite that large (as not to damage the inside of the rail)

After I finished drilling it out to a point that I couldn't anymore I filed down the little lip on the end of the fuel rail with a regular file and used a screw driver to pop the remaining rings of aluminum out of the rail. This worked great and only was about an hour or so worth of work.

I ended up taking a dremel to the inside of it. got a slot cut on one side so far, going to cut a slot on the other side when I get back to it and I think it will come out no problem
