ablkbrd 08-02-2007, 05:55 PM Im looking to replace my stock speakers w/ new or used(not blown)units. Every where I went for cheap upgrades they told me I have to replace everything just to upgrade 2 blown speakers! If true tell me why. Or if you want to sell me your stock stuff PM me. thanks
fredmr39 08-02-2007, 05:59 PM you can replace them with almost any aftermarket speaker and not touch anything else -- which speakers are blown?
aliensRreal 08-02-2007, 11:26 PM You definitely do not need to replace everything. You can easily get away with replacing one pair of speakers while leaving the others in tact.
xcseshdogg 08-03-2007, 05:07 AM yep, took me 2 hours with my dad....but I just changed out my door panel speakers....they are tough because you have to take the whole door sill off....but just buy some aftermarket 6 1/2 inch speakers and they'll fit just fine....I bought some 4-ways at best buy today for $100 and it even came with the necessary speaker wire....they also had some 2-ways for $60......if you need any help doing this or questions before you start, send me a PM and I'll answer them to the best of my knowledge

what did you buy? might want to consider returning them and ordering much nicer for the same price offline.... or the same quality for a lot less -- I hate seeing people spend more than necessary
Future_Z_Owner 08-04-2007, 07:39 PM I agree but not only for the reason you can get them cheaper online. But because some speakers require more power to drive the speaker than others. This could very well be the case for you. You don't wanna get speakers that have a 100 watt ability unless you have an amplifier to drive them. This is simply because the cone wont be moving much due to a much stiffer surround. They will sound faint in your car and will be overpowered by your factory speakers. Try to find some with a power handling of about 50 watts. OR some with a low power requirement. www.crutchfield.com Is a good place to look. They are average store priced but they have great customer service. If you don't intend to purchase from them, id still recommend you figuring out what you want there. Their site has detailed info for all their products.
IdahoLT1 08-04-2007, 10:15 PM Too bad i didnt see this thread earlier. I replaced my stock front door and rear seat speakers with some Alpine SPS-17C2 and have them in my garage. I though i had blown a speaker but it was part of the head unit. I would have just charged you for shipping.

yea much easier to compare specs across a larger range of products online than at the store
when looking online, don't worry about power handling though.... sensitivity (if measured by the standard) is what you should be looking for -- a sensitivity of 90dB or higher on a 4 ohm speaker will sound just as loud or louder than any stock 2 ohm speakers off of factory power
strbcks241 08-15-2007, 11:48 AM From what I've heard, the reason they say to replace the whole system is that the stock speakers are run on a 2 ohm setup and the amps are set up specifically for the bose speakers to amplify the frequencies they are sensitive to. how does the setup sound with aftermarket speakers?
