12SCNDZ 07-29-2007, 09:21 PM Before I started this project, I did a search for a good diagram for all the battery wiring. I found a few clues, but none real easy to follow. I wanted to post this incase anyone else needed the information.
I ran my postive cable, and the alt. wires under the car, zip tied together. They tuck up nice on the inside of the rocker seam. The funny parts is, these 4th gens look like they were made for external battery cables. The rear wheel well has a void between the sheet metal that the cables fit in perfectly. I use a BMR battery box, in the spare tire well, Jegs 300 AMP. master cut-off switch with their push/pull rod, a Jegs relocation wire kit, and a "red top" Optima. I'll have actual pictures soon of the wiring, and the completed outcome.
I owe Brian (PROJECTZ28) alot of thanks for giving me a hand with the switch and wiring.

ZBLKHELLRZR 07-30-2007, 03:04 AM I've always wanted to know how it was done. Thanks for the graph! Looks great.
2000GTP 07-30-2007, 05:20 PM Well done Frank. I love the bowtie ended pull rod.
12SCNDZ 07-30-2007, 05:27 PM Well done Frank. I love the bowtie ended pull rod.
Thanks. The bowtie is an air cleaner wing nut. Same thread as the jegs push/pull rod. I'll get some better pictures once the rear bumper is back on.

mdacton 07-30-2007, 05:31 PM Frank, the ground you have in the rear......it may work but I had mine like that and it did not get a good ground. I kept that one and ran another one to my cage.
Are you doing anysheet metal in the rear?

It will look better once the carpet is relaid. Still waiting on the rear bumper to do that, though.

Projectz28 07-31-2007, 11:05 AM Looks good Frank... Like I said I think your switch came out much better than mine. I like it! I'm now jealouse;)...
I have my ground in the same spot and so far no problems.
Only think I see (hard to tell from the pic) is be carefull with that battery cable on the starter. Looks like its too close to the header pipes and you might start to melt the insulation on a long run. Again, hard to tell from the pic but it looks too close.
lethal93ta 08-06-2007, 08:48 PM looks about how I did mine, I still have to run a wire from the front of my car from the alt yet, I have it laying here just to hot to be laying in a car running wires.

12SCNDZ 08-07-2007, 09:14 PM Very nice job there. I think you went with a larger Alt wire than I did. I'm hoping I don't run into charging issues.

lethal93ta 08-07-2007, 09:19 PM na mines 4ga to, I have a 200 amp alt on my car from a long time ago and I use to use 4ga wire from the battery to the rear for the amps so I had 2 30 ft pieces laying around yet just had to get to it and put it in the car, Im hoping I dont have starter problems LOL I have 2ga wire running to the starter, it came in a kit from summit.
BTW: I kinda stole your pic LOL, I put it up on my page I just made up

Daniel6718 08-07-2007, 10:19 PM i dont understand why you cant simple make the switch cut off the ground from the battery to the frame...it would save you haveing to run the alternator wire back there...you would only have to run 1 wire up to the front for power...it would save weight too
lethal93ta 08-07-2007, 10:28 PM I have a seperate wire hooked up all the time to power that runs stuff like my radio memory and I have a power block under the dash that i can hook anything up to that I want like my 110 converter that I run my laptop off of even with the MDS pushed off, I have to many friends that like to push in my cut off all the time, and Im not resetting the clock all the time, so if you would cut the ground you would have to run ground wires to stuff like that and re wire everything. all you need to be legal is have it shut off the engine ignition and fuel.
Daniel6718 08-07-2007, 11:02 PM no your wouldent ahve to rewire all the grounds....simple cut off the ground between the battery and frame
lethal93ta 08-08-2007, 05:18 AM but i would have to run ground wires up to the stuff that I want to keep running.
z28_4life 08-16-2007, 03:36 PM My question is this. The optima battery is not a "dry cell" battery (which sucks cause that's what I purchased). If the battery is not enclosed in a sealed box will tech turn you away at inspection. The bmr looks great and everything but not if it wont pass tech. Also, what are you guys doing about the coolent resevior that was orignally mounted underneath of the battery tray. Did you retain it some how or mount a new one else where?
lethal93ta 08-16-2007, 06:01 PM I took my stock tank out and out a polished tank in there that I got from summit. as far as tech it depends, yes they probably could fail you but most places arnt going to make you pull a panel to look for a box, I know a lot of people that use diffrent brackets that run at the track and they never looked behind panels. now if your running under 10.0 that would be diffrent, they start to get really picky about cars that fast. its up to you, Im going to try mine and see if they see mine.
z28_4life 08-16-2007, 11:24 PM do you have a link for the polished summit tank. I can add that to the total...haha.
lethal93ta 08-16-2007, 11:33 PM Oops got that from jegs
part # 555-51146 is what I got. theres tons of them out there I just found that farly cheep and got it. you can still use your stock tank if you want to but I have other plans for the room where that tank was at.
