$500-600 to spend. Not worried about a Subwoofer really.

Estimated Price Breakup.
Headunit $150-200
Fronts $100-200
Rears $150
Amp $100-150

Current Considerations.
Headunit Alpine CDA-9883
Fronts Polk Audio db6500, Polk Audio db6501, Infinity Reference 6010cs
Rears Polk Audio db6500
Amp Infinity Reference 1300a

I really am not sure if I'm looking at stuff right. Also what do I need to consider to be spending on misc (wiring, harness, etc.)

Things to consider
I have an iPod I'd like to use.
I'd like to have Satelite/HD Radio but will probably not be getting a subscription
I listen to rock and country.
Subwoofer may come later.
Car is a '97 Camaro SS w/ Monsoon (I think?!?!) CD.

So this budget is for everything besides the sub (which you are not concerned about now), right?

So of that 5-600 budget -- do you want to spend it all and get the best possible sound for the money or is that just the absolute most you want to spend, and would rather spend less..?

eh i'm pretty cheap, I'm a bang for the buck kinda guy. I realilize the more I spend the better the system will be. But I feel $500 should be able to build a decent system without a subwoofer. So to answer your question, if it's a huge difference i guess i could spend a few extra bucks but I'd like to keep it in my price range.

You misunderstood me I believe -- you can get incredible sound for $600 if that isn't including the sub/sub amp part of the budget... I was just asking because you will likely underspend that budget for good sound -- but if you wanted to use all 5-600 of it -- that's possible too (obviously) -- I wasn't saying spend more at all -- $600 is more than enough for most people.

look man one of my friends wanted a sysem and she asked me to go with her so i could help her get some good. we went and she spent at most $4oo. she bought 2 Pioneers 10 inch subs $110, Kenwood 2 channel 1700w amp $140, and the sub box was $45, wireing kit was $45. she decided to keep her stock head unit it was a 02 trans am

i spent 100 on a pioneer head unit, 80 on a 10 in kikker cvr, and 40 in a concept amp ( i bought it from a friend) and 30 on a ported sub box, 20 on wireing and 15 on tweeters. i spent a total of 250 + taxes and it was a good sound system.

yeah, it all depends, for everything but the subs 500 is wayyyy too much unless you want some semi-competition stuff, without the subs, you won't need the subs, box, amp, or amp wiring harness....but if you do plan on getting subs at sometime, I recommend buying the amp wiring harness (one that can support alot of power since you don't know how big of system you will be getting in the future, too big of wire is better than too small).....install the amp wiring harness when the head unit is installed, that way you don't have to undo the head unit install, and redo it again....just food for thought

$500 is a good budget -- nowhere near competition or "semi-competition" stuff.

By "amp wiring harness" (which isn't a real term) he means power/ground found in amp wiring kits.

...installing an amp hardly involves he head unit besides RCAs and the remote wire -- there's no reason to put RCAs in if they're just going to be sitting around getting old when you have no idea what furure plans are or where the amp will end up, etc.. also - since when did pulling the head unit out take more than 60 seconds? not a big deal to have to pull the HU again at all -- I've had mine out probably 50 times at least.

Just realized you said "undo the head unit install" -- what do you mean by that? Why would he have to undo that to install an amp???
