Just got back from Daytona

Talk about f-ing up a good thing. The police and event staff had the traffic control set up so we could not get back in to get the truck and trailer. One way in. One way out. Leave the trailer to cruise and too bad. I had to park my car blocking traffic and refuse to move before they would let me get in to trailer parking. Some fat a$$ bitch said she had "orders" not to let anybody in from our direction. When I told her that my trailer was there, "tough" was her answer. I paid to be there! She wanted me to drive all the way around to Speedway Blvd again just to get through the gate. No there were no signs posted and I was not the only person having this problem. We parked the trailer in the same exact spot the last 4 yrs. Eventually a State Trooper came and told her to let me in. The Turkey Rod Run was the only show I do. I doubt I'll be back. There was never a problem before. Why now? Is Daytona determined to run out all events they dont like? Otherwise the show was great and the cruising on A1A was awesome. Even got into a little scrimish with another Monte Carlo SS.

If your problem was with the Daytona Beach cops, write their boss a letter. Be professional, but let them know they screwed up. If your problem was with Speedway Security, write the preseident of the Daytona International Speedway the same letter. Include your statement "I doubt I will be back". They make a lot of money off these events, and they kiss a$$, so don't be surprised if you get a response quickly.

Hope the rest of the show was fun!

I haven't been the last couple years. The cops are ruining it. The last time I went (three years ago) the cops gave an older lady a ticket for revving up her engine. That doesn't include the other gazzilion tickets I saw being written. It's just not fun anymore and by the sounds of it, I won't be going back anytime soon

Thats a statment I'll agree with. But I've never had a problem till last night.I've been taking cars to the Turkey Run for many years. Most without trailers. But my Monte isnt something you could drive the 180 miles. 5000 stall 8" converter and 4.56 gears with a spool. Mostly a race piece thats street legal. But thats not the point. There were tons of trailers this year. Not sure why. Why would you close off an area that people need to get back to. The traffic patterns around the speedway just run a little slower during events and people know it. Why send people all the way around to Clyde Morris Blvd to get back to the track. Thats a long way in that kind of traffic. Any way either the Monte will be able to make the drive( really been thinking of a LT1 and T56 swap) next year. Or leaving the trailer some whereels. Daytona has been in the news for years trying to run off events that are too much hassel. They even have a new law with a measurement of how much material has to be on a bikini.

The show was packed like I never saw it before. It was great but it was hell getting a parking spot . We had to go around the entire track through heavy, lighted traffic to get in. only 2 ways in & out. That really sucks. I had bought some heavy parts and ended up dragging them around because the car was parked so far away it wasn't worth the trip. It hurts vendors as it influenced my buying & time spent at the show. If it dosn't improve it will become a PIA problem nexy time.

i left my trailer at the track on friday night outside the gate by the airport. they didn't give me much of a hassle when i came back to get it late saturday afternoon. i did see a guy get pulled over on A1A for doing absolutely nothing. he pulled onto the street in front of me legally, then a motorcycle cop rode up to him at the next light. i can understand the police ticketing people for doing stupid things, but this guy did nothing wrong that i could see or hear.

this was my first time at the rod run and i really enjoyed it. i even got picked on by a lightning last night on ISB. when i got done with him all he could say was "i can smell the race gas!!".

I grew up here, just north in Ormond Beach actually, and I will agree with most the comments made about the police and event staff. I've been going to the Turkey Run since I was a little kid, and every year it seems to get more and more screwed up at the Speedway. Also, the police presence, and periodic, harassment on A1A has gotten more intense. It's gotten so bad that the only time I cruised down A1A was after eating dinner in Daytona, and I was heading back to Ormond. It just seems like the police are jonesing to find something wrong. For a city that relies so heavily on money from people visiting it the city council and other government agencies need to work together to set up a better plan before attendance drops significantly. Because it's a lot easier to keep people coming than it is to try and win them back after you've fuct it all up.

Werd. THey want all these people to come here to bring money into the city but then they give them a hard time from the time they get here till the time they leave. Tickets left and right. Daytona is determined to drive all the revenue generating events out of here. A bunch of old fu<ks on city council running everything.

Yea and the law about the bikinis is a load of cr@p. Basically its written so you can't wear a thong. Either in public or in public places. Like strip clubs. Basically the law is written so bikers get screwed when they come here and also it makes it illegal for strippers to wear thongs in their place of employment.

Another new law was just passed where you can't drink within 100 feet of A1A. Or open alcohol container. Basically written so spring breakers and bikers can't be drinking outside if their hotel rooms and such. I mean WTF!! What about all the people that live on A1A!!??? THey can get ticketed for drinking a beer in their own front yard!!! BS man.

This town needs tourists. Without them this town would not exist. However they are trying to write all these laws to keep these people away. In essence shooting themselves in the foot. In a few years or so when tourism is down they will wonder why noone is coming here. Also to generate more revenue. No other reason to impose such laws like that.

Daytona is now considering passing a law to only have 1 way traffic on the beach. Basically only saying you can drive one way on the beach. "To prevent cruising" WTF?? People come to DB to drive on the beach and to cruise to check out the ladies and the guys too. If they only allow driving one way on the beach then traffic on A1A going in the opposite direction of beach flow will be backed up and then they will have people complaining about the traffic problems on A1A. Don't break **** if it isn't broken.

Yea internally stock 2.8 liter with an auto tranny to boot. I had some bolt ons like a crank pulley, a K&n filter and a Crane Hi-6 ignition system but that was it. I ran a 70 shot.

I should probably change my sig as since I have sold that car. I now have a 88 Fiero Formula 5 spd. Clutchnet stage 2 clutch, crank pulley and a custom dual TB intake. Intake has been dyno'ed to add 34 hp on a 3.4 so I am thinking it should give me around 20 or so. I usually can't feel the difference when I do a mod but with this one I def can. So I would def say more then 10 hp for sure. It just pulls harder up top then with the stock single throttlebody intake and small plenum. I prob tripled the plenum volume and shortened the intake runners by a few inches. I figure I have nitrous to give me some low end torque that I probably lost with this intake to help me off the line if need be even though it still hooks hard. Two fogger nozzles instead of one now. One in each TB. Still working on getting things finalized so I havent' been to the track yet. I would think high 13's are attainable if not mid 13's. Just have to get some bugs worked out first.

BlackRocketZ - What year Monte/color is yours? I was cruising most of the weekend in my dark cherry metallic 87 SS with silver SS stripes (and un-capped exhaust).

There were alot of good looking Montes out there...I guess there will be alot more in the Spring with the NMCOA having a show within a show at the Spring Spectacular.

Who else enjoyed the 45 plus minute wait to get a parking spot at Bell Air Plaza?? Man...that was horrible....but alot of fun once you got parked and were able to look at every thing.

I am sure many that went to the show stopped by Bel Air Plaza. Did anyone stop into the Salty Dog Surf Shop?? Thats where I work. I was the skinny blonde haired dude if any remembers me. Usually had a hat on backwards.

All I can say is that it was grrrreat staring out the window at work and seeing all those pretty cars.

Its an 85 Pro Street Burgundy Monte SS. We lucked out Saturday evening and pulled into a parking spot in front of the new Publix across from the Bel Air. We stayed there till about nine pm and headed back to the trailer at the Volusia Mall for the tow home. This year had the most Montes that I've seen at that show. Are you a member of the NMCOA? I used to be put didnt keep up with it. I was just thinking of them today. I was cleaning the car off and was looking at the NMCOA sticker on my windshield from years ago. Are you going to the Spring show? I'd love to park with a bunch of other Montes.

wanna know how bad the cops screwed it up????

i saw an accident between a 34 ford and a 69 camaro that the cops caused. 2 cops in one intersection, with their backs to each other. one waving traffic north and south and the other waving traffic east and west. a big *** truck was going through the traffic and almost T-boned the 34 the 34 nailed the brakes and the 69 camaro plaowed into it. messed up both cars pretty bad. that was the only time i didnt see cops writting tickets. i didnt hang around to see but there were enough witnesses that saw that the cops caused the accident so there shouldnt be much of a problem in getting some resolution for that one.
