The second, third, and fourth gear ratios were changed late in the program as a direct result of testing on the Nordschleife, says Rob Kotarak. (Good news for manual Camaro buyers: Your cars will get this gear set, too.) Though there's no difference-according to Cadillac's figures-between the straight-line performance of manual or automatic cars equipped with the top of the range 3.6-liter DI engine, the manual car clearly feels quicker around the 'Ring, punching harder out of corners and with less of a gap between the second and third ratios. In fact, says Sigma products development manager Rick Kewley, the manual is five to eight seconds a lap faster."

I did a quick search of the AY6, and came up with these ratios....

4.15 2.33 1.53 1.15 1.00 0.79

That's one OD gear. Assuming Camaro's manual is indeed the AY6, and ratios are close to this, I suspect you'll see a rear gear ratio of something under 3.00:1. Also, That's a HUGE drop from 1st to 2nd (even bigger than the 3.35 to 2.00 in the T3650 found in Mach 1s and 02-04 GTs).

Eh....could be both. With such a short first gear, it would certianly move smartly from a stop. Downside is the big drop on rpm from the 1/2 shift.

.79 is a crappy OD ratio unless you have a high geared rear end... Even the archaic 700R4 was .7:1.

Yes, but note the really short 1st-5th ratios. That will allow a really high rear end gear.

A DI V6 doesn't behave anything like a NA V8 or a supercharged V8, so the ratios are obviously up in the air.

I second the idea that this tranny most likely doesn't have enough nads to take what the big V8's are going to put out, and that a T-56 variant would be a better bet.

Hey, it's PacerX. Long time, no see.

Would seem to be ratios for a small engine in a heavy car, or a small truck. Can't imagine that in a V8 Camaro over here.

Somewhat similar in gearing to the A6 in the new Vettes:

4.027 2.364 1.532 1.152 0.852 0.667

They only come with 2.56 and 2.73 gear ratios. The 2.73 is the performance ratio.

I would rather go with the different internal gears and have a larger rear gear for more strength.

I thought the Camaro would be getting something like the TR-6060 in the GT500.

I'd agree with that, but I wonder if having a larger pinion in relation to the ring gear is better for efficiency? Might be worth a tenth MPG? But normally a 4 to 1 first gear ratio is not all that strong in a gear box I'm thinking. Guess we'll wait and see.

Glad to see GM's joined the 21st century with their gear ratios. The ratios in my Buick load the crap out of the engine. But whats up with the insanely steep 1st gear, are they encouraging tire spin? :wtf:
