I just killed my ECM tonight. I have a 95 pcm in my 96 so that I can tune it myself and I have already killed it. The fans stay on and I have a really fast blinking SES light. I just got the ECM from PCM for less too . This really sucks. I am using TunerCat Win flash, TunerPro RT to modify the bin. and data log. For hardware I have a Moates Autoprom and a Moates cable. The Autoprom uses a USB to serial software to create a com port. It seems like someone would know exactly what to do to keep this from happening.
I disconnected the ECM from everything and let it sit fro about 30 min, and still the same thing. I didn't get any errors while flashing.

Welcome to the club, I just did the same thing to mine a week or so ago. Just send it on over to Ion at madz28.com and he can fix it for $40 plus shipping. Did you make sure your battery was good an fully charged before you flashed it? Thats why mine became a drool case. :(

Can you communicate with the PCM still, or is it unresponsive? Can you try flashing the tune back to it that worked previously?

Nope, will not communicate at all. It will not allow me to flash, I get a communication error. I was able to read it before this happened though so I know it was communicating. I let it sit all night with no power and put it back in the car this morning and got the same thing.
I got this computer so that I can tune it, but if this is going to happen every time it really sucks.
What is the battery voltage range for flashing these things?

stop using USB-serial converters and use a computer with a serial port... people who do that rarely have problems and people with USB converters seem to always have problems frying their EE's
