have to do some work on a 98 V6 car, questions on plugs/wires
My wifes friend is wanting me to do plugs/wires/shox/struts on a 98' as a tune up for her son who is overseas(iraq). I have read the misfire sticky, and one thing has jumped out at me...............

Campaign - Spark Plug Wires/Driveability Complaints

99057 -- Special Policy Adjustment -- Spark Plug Wire Replacement
1995-1998 Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird Model Vehicles

Some owners of 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1998 model year Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird vehicle equipped with 3.8L engine (RPO L36, VIN Code K) may experience driveability complaints such as rough idle, misfire and/or illumination of the Malfunction Indictor Lamp (MIL) (code P03-X-misfire). has anyone here gone to the dealership and had wires replaced for free under this recall?
Ive never even seen under the hood of a 98'V6 car before(i own a 97'SS and all my friends have Ls1 cars), but what kind of time am i lookin at for the plugs and wires?

I wish I had heard of the recall the 2x mine craped out before 50k
They are difficult to access, espceially the #2 IMO, running the wires is an art also!
I bought heat wraping shield that is silver shiny, I sliced it down the center and put just enough on the effected plug wires to make a big difference. If you go that route get the hottest/ highest temp tested stuff you can find, I melted something that said it was good for 400*
(on hot days mine would start running rough)
Good luck!

BTW, how did/ do you find recalls like that?

I called a dealership a couple of days ago and there is a time and mileage limit on the recall. I think it was 7 years which excludes all 96 models. You can call the dealership to make sure however and get the complete info.
I just replaced my wires with MSD wires. I also routed mine different from the factory routing hopefully making them less likely to get burned. It is much easier if you have access to a lift as I did. Having one person on top and another on the bottom made it much easier.

Unfortunately it wasn't really a recall as much as it was a policy adjustment. You would have been notified by mail, if they knew the current owner, if it was a recall. Policy adjustments means if they have one in the shop and the customer complains they will "policy adjust" the cost. It is up to the dealership service personal to advise you. Which, doesn't happen very often.

its a huge PITA with the gay stock log mannies in there you have to go from the bottom only way
The plug wire campaign extended the warranty on the plug wires to 7 years/70,000 miles. If you're past that you're out of luck...and think everyone is by now. I think '99 was the last year that was covered by this campaign.
HOWEVER, I HAD a '96 V6 that I sold in '98 when I bought my '98 Z28 and I was notified of the plug wire campaign AFTER I had sold my '96. GM reimbursed me for the plug wire replacement! If you can get ahold of a copy of the actual campaign letter, there's a number or address to contact GM and if you can provide receipts for the plug wire replacement and prove that it was your car at the time of the replacement, GM will reimburse you. They did that for me.
