Front axle moved to accomodate larger wheels?

I'm trying to set people straight on the Car and Driver forums regarding current intel on the Camaro. Someone mentioned a Motor Trend article about the Camaro's front axle being moved forward 50 millimeters from the basic Zeta layout to accomodate larger wheels (like 20" wheels). This apparently would also carry over to the Impala and GTO. I was skeptical, seeing as how Motor Trend and other car mags don't do any research, but I didn't want to throw the BS flag too soon. Anyone hear anything about this?

The wells will accomodate up to 24 inch wheels, but i HIGHGLY doubt that anything in production form will be larger than 19 or 20....this is a Camaro not an Escalade

I wonder is the extra room for 24's is more for later growth or with the idea many owners will want to upgrade to larger aftermarket wheels.

I have had hopes that GM would leave the new Camaro tuner freindly as they can in this day and age as this is what made the original Camaro great.

We all may not want 24's but if you want youth interest in the car this is a way to do it.

GM did it just for Jada wheels Big Time Muscle models.....

I'm hoping the car comes stock with a nice set of 5 spoke TTII style rims in 17 or 18 inches. The mustangs look really nice with them, I think the camaro would too.

I think our 5 on 4.75 is gone.

You more than likely going to see a common GM metric bolt pattern.

Either way the aftermarket will take care of this car very well. The question only is how much lead time will they give the aftermarket to make sure they have the correct offsets.

The wheel offset in new cars is very important since fender clearance is not as great as it once was. With the Solstice you have to have it right or you will have problems.
