Looking to have a converter installed

Anyone recommend a good place to have a converter installed in my LT1 car? I pm'd 1badair. He came recommended be a few people for F-car work. If he is busy i'd like to take it to a place I can trust.

It's not too bad of an install, Rob. You can do it in your garage in around 4 hours. I've done a few of them and I hate working on cars! It can be a PITA getting everything lined back up again but once you do it's usually smooth sailing. Can be done by one person but is easier with two, at least for the actual dropping and raising back up of the trans.

Chris (IrocSS85) He's done alot of them out of his house and real reasonable.

Id say your not gonna beat that deal. question, got headers/ypipe or stock stuff? ever been apart in last several years? lots of time will be spent either trying not to break bolts, or repairing broken bolts if it is either stock, or not been apart in a few years. Im pretty sure with stock mann.'s and ypipe the trans can be taken out w/o taking the exh. apart though.

I wont have time to do anything more work at home for a long time. in the middle of heads/cam on an LS1 right now, and got johns nitrous/dual fuel system buildup goin on too still. then its break time for a while. thanks anyways D for the mention.

another option though is I can do stall swaps at the dealership I work at for $220 plus tax. anyday you want. I have a deal worked out with my managers for discount pricing on high performance work I bring in. ofcourse Im a certified ASE tech.

I recently put headers and exhaust on it, and the trans was replaced about 15,000 miles ago by the previous owner so everything should come apart easily. Plus my car has spent most of it's life in a warm garage. No snow, little rain, etc....

awesome it'll come out no problems for you then. dont forget to buy header collector gaskets if your headers use them.

Funny they asked about the exhaust cause I spent about 4 hours fixing a stud the other day on an ls1 that wasn't driven in snow

Thanks for all the replys, but I did it myself this morning. It took about 2 hours, but I still have to put the driveshaft in, linkage, torque arm, etc...
I did not even have to remove any exhaust. I think that is because I have a single-cat '93.

I always have a few small things that turn into big things that make stuff take longer than it should. One time it took me half an hour just to get the driveshaft out the yoke! I beat on it with a piece of 2x4 and a hammer and it still didn't want to come out! It's always something stupid when I work on a car. That's why I hate working on them!!!

That kind of stuff always seems to happen to me too. It ended up taking at least four hours by the time it was completely done. All the little stuff takes some time. The converter is a 2400 stall, but it seemed very tight in the driveway when I footbraked it. I did not have time to test drive it though. I had to go to work.
