camarolt4ss 07-10-2007, 10:46 AM so whats the word on the best standalone system out there.... i have a 95ta that needs something stand alone....
so i have heard about big stuff 3 and megasquirt......
whats the pro's and cons of either or, and any imput would be great
thnx
rskrause 07-10-2007, 06:48 PM Best for what? The ones you mentioned are inexpensive but not very sophisticated. I use an Electromotive on my race car. It is a step up from what you mention. And you can go further - to a Motec or something like that. What are you trying to do with it? Why won't a stock PCM do? I am still using a stock (tuned) PCM on the Camaro.

camarolt4ss 07-10-2007, 07:56 PM i have the car programed right now... but i figure with the stand alone i can do all the changes i need, as i do them to the engine with out having to re program the stock ecu each time.....
right now i have a map for a 67mm turbo with 2.5 inch pluming.... i have gone to a 76mm turbo with 3 inch pluming......
so i need to re map it for this... and thats a start...
any sugestions??
rskrause 07-10-2007, 08:14 PM I like the Electromotive because it includes a complete ignition with multiple coil packs. Replaces the distributor, coils, ignition box as well as running the fuel injection. It has multiple general pupose outputs that can be used to control various functions.

camarolt4ss 07-10-2007, 10:46 PM Electromotive TEC 2 the right one?? or which model are u using?
rskrause 07-11-2007, 12:47 AM TEC3r. TEC2 is outmoded, no longer manufactured.

camarolt4ss 07-11-2007, 07:23 AM but if i can find a tec2 is the price diff between them worth the upgrade to the 3?
rskrause 07-11-2007, 03:14 PM It's been a while since I played with a TEC2.So, I really can't say.

mdacton 07-11-2007, 03:39 PM ok so how about the gen 7 from accel?? i have been told alot of good things about this system as well.... any imput?
I have one....I like the features but I don't have much experience with it. I know other people that use it....everyone seems to like it. Accel has all the info on the site
rskrause 07-11-2007, 06:08 PM The Gen7 seems to work well. It was one of the alternatives I considered when I got the Electromotive. However, the Accel does not include an ignition system. So, you will still need a distrbutor and coil(s). The Electromotive has an complete ignition system. When you look at the price, you need to consider that.

camarolt4ss 07-11-2007, 10:28 PM thats very true... i cant seem to get a straight answer on a price for the tec 3 tho... altho i can get a gen 7 for about 1400 bucks, but then u have to buy the opti harness too.....
so how much did u pay for your tec 3??

I think it was ~$2,200. Remember - no ignition box, distributor, or coil(s) needed.

lethal93ta 07-12-2007, 05:32 PM I have a accel DFI on mine, Im just going to run a MSD Opti, I never really had problems with even the stock ones, I had one go bad in the 7 years I had my car and that was only due to a leaking WP. the accel unit for the LT1 comes with the opti harness, hell it came with both styles of them old non vented and new vented plugs., I was really suprised whe nthe kit came to see 2 diffrent harness's for the ignition, the harness has the coil plugs and opti plug all in one thing so its not like its just one diffrent end its a harness.

Injuneer 07-14-2007, 11:37 AM For "power adder" setups, the MoTeC is hard to beat (but pricey):
http://www.motec.com/products/ecu/control.htm
I have the M48Pro, with the IEX 8-channel ignition driver. Optimal NA tuning, plus complete control of the nitrous system with no external requirements for fuel enhancement, ignition timing, window switches, WOT switch, rev limiters for nitrous, etc. Full sequential, with individual cylinder trims for fuel, spark, injector timing, etc. 8 LS1-style coils, driven off the Opti optical sensor low res signal.
Kinsler has a page that summarizes the capabilities of the various systems, but I'm not sure when it was updated last:

The MoTeC Glossary is also educational:

lethal93ta 07-14-2007, 12:53 PM the DFI gen VII also has a 3 stage N20 control, just set up the ECM for everything, you can set it up for sequential or batch fire fueling, I just have mine set up with batch fire, a lot less tweeking.
