I just got my T56 out of my car and and was thinking about swapping to an auto.I will be doing a lot of drag racing with it and wanted to get some suggestions about reliability of the two.Can the T56 handle the abuse?,or would it be better to get an auto built specifically for my application. My car dynoed at 678 rwhp on a dynojet. I pulled the tranny because the clutch and flywheel was destroyed and found out it was a SPEC stage 3 installed.

I think a built t56 will be stronger then a built A4. Stock the t56 has a torque rating of 450lbs, so it should last you a bit depending on how you drive it.

I say auto all the way, especially if you plan on drag racing it. A well-built 4L60E can handle the kind of power you're making, and with a nice converter you'll absolutely love it! My car has had a T56 for the 4 years I've owned it, and 2 months ago I swapped to a 4L60E and I've never been happier with the car. I'm sure when I finally make it to the track I'll be happier still. No more burning clutches.
