I know, I know, who cares about 0 to 60...either 1/8 or 1/4 ETs matter. I agree, but....
Theoretically would a 3.73 car be slower from 0 to 60 then a 2.73 car?
Let my nonsense rambling start....when I had 2.73, I could go up to close to 50 mph in 1st, so I would pass right pass 60 mph easily in 2nd.
Now with 3.73, my 1-2 shift is around 37mph and 2-3 is around 60mph-ish. Wouldn't that be slower to have to go through 2 shifts, instead of just 1? Or does the quicker off the line acceleration with 3.73s offset that.
Don't get me wrong....3.73s are fun as hell...is just seems like the car is shifting all the time.

3.73s would be faster off the line in tern giving u a better 0-60..as long as u have traction....
Of course the car will shift more b/c of the 3.73s change the shift points and get u up the rpm band quicker

^^ agreed, 3:73's will benefit you if you also had some good sticky tires but generally speaking it will shift more often but it will keep you in your power range and get you there quicker.

What do you have right now? 3.23 or 2.73 gears? I think you will be most happy with 3.73 gears once you have the headers and the converter in :) A converter will loosen the car up a bit and the higher gears will help get rid of that loose feeling.
If your with 2.73 gears right now you will notice a huge difference even with 3.42, however if your car has 3.23 right now, 3.42 will barely be noticable.
Big jump in ratio there. I'd sure think that the first 100 feet or so you'd really be much quicker with the 3.;73 gears. Usually an impressive difference. I went from the stock 2:77 to a 3:23 in my 89 and it really came alive. .

I'd keep the stock gears and do the converter. The converter will boost your speed while the lockup/stock gears keep the highway fun. 3.73's are wasting that 3.06 first gear ratio (it's gone too fast)
3.73's in O/D = 2.73 in 3rd gear on the highway.
I've had 2.73, 3.27, 3.42, and 3.73. My favourite was the 3.42. It gave a great acceleration and pickup, had a usable first gear and wasn't too bad on the highway.
Having said that, I wouldn't change a 3.23 or 3.27 to a 3.42. They're too close to bother. You're talking about 200 RPM difference while driving.
