Whats the point of a V-6 Camaro?

Look at it this way, any real car guy isn't buying his camaro to save gas, so the V-8 models are probably going to fly off the lot, and the 6's will sit like lame ducks! Now, i don't have actual numbers for Mustang sales, but how many GT models compared to the base versions? That said the Mustang doesn't sell in 6's because even the 8 is underpowered.

Makes for a very nice chick car, and guys will buy them too for the gas mileage. See lots of fine looking women in the new Rustang with 3/4 of an engine.

My gf has an 05 stang,as well as MANY women in my area. I see alot more 6's than 8's on the road...I think its mostly b/c the GT is another $8,000-$10,000 more than a 6 and some people either cant afford or dont see how its worth that much more.

$32,000 is ALOT of money for a car that has ONLY 300HP.

You think every 67-69 Camaro came with a BBC to? Only a few had a BBC. Some had a SBC and many that rolled off the showroom floor only had an inline 6. Bigger engines and more options add considerably to the price of a new car.

There are base models and performance models to suit everyone's taste.

Even many of the early Mustangs only had a 6 or a 4 under the hood.

IIRC the last generation of the Mustangs (99-04) sold close to 70% 6 cylinder and 30% 8 cylinder, while the last generation of F-bodies sold close to 60% 6 cylinder and 40% 8 cylinder.

The sales of the 8 cylinder cars only is not enough to sustain the entire line. 6 cylinder sales are necessary. Without them, you would have no V8, F-body or Mustang!

Besides, the V8s cost substantially more in initial cost, insurance rates, and fuel costs as well. There are a lot of people (mostly women), that don't want the high horsepower, and would rather have the sporty car that the 6 cylinder car offers.

If you think the 6 cylinders are bad, you'd probably have a heart attack with me telling you that GM sold thousands of 4 cylinder Camaros and Firebirds years ago!

If the Camaro/Firebird didnt have a V6 base model, the V8 model would have to cost almost as much as a Corvette for GM to make a profit. Look at how expensive the SSR truck was, since it only had one engine option.

I've also heard the 4th gen V8 Camaro/Firebird sold more units than the same years V8 Mustang. And the same year V6 Mustang sold more units than all the 4th gen Camaros/Firebirds for that year. Either the Mustang is selling on name only, or Ford was doing something right that GM wasnt.

:no: The V6 model for both the Mustang and the Camaro is the key to the success of the entire model line. If the V6 didn't sell well, then the V8 would have no hope of existing. To think that the V6 will not sell well is absurd. To say that the Mustang doesn't sell V6 models is just plain ignorant. Look for the numbers, you'll see that the majority of Mustangs sold are V6 models. But I see you're a new member and this is your first post, so we'll try to overlook your neglection of the facts. :p
