I hope this is the right place to post this. If not, mods please move.

I own a 89 RS 5.0 Manual Transmission. It has about 160k miles on it but still purrs like a kitten.... when it starts. Heres the issue: When I go out in the morning to start my car for work it starts right up. If I drive it long enough to get the engine temp to like 200 dgrees then turn off the car it wont restart until it has time to cool down. I can get a jump from another car and it will start but the portable battery chargers dont do the trick. I have been told that it may be the Neutral Safety Switch but havent had it replaced yet. The starter is new. Any help would be greatly apprecieated.

kinda sounds like Heat Soak on your starter. Check out Jegs or Summit for heat wrap blankets, they are pretty cheap iirc

Thanks for the reply. I used the search function and saw that ALOT of posters have this problem. As far as a quick fix, banging on the starter. I actually had a mechanic do that because he said it was "carbon buildup" which I found fishy since it was a new starter. Again, thanks for the reply.

I took the car to a garage and it turned out that it was the Neutral Safety Switch. The mechanic also ripped out a bunch of the old wiring for the alarm. It starts up every time now. Hope this can help someone. Thanks for the reply Jay.

Got me confussed??? Sticks don't have Neutral Safety Switches. Are you talking about the clutch pedal switch?
